💯 Unfortunately, plenty of people do take these appraisals seriously. They influence pricing decisions, anchor expectations and make negotiations an uphill battle.

@dynatodd might need to recalibrate your appraisal tool.

Disagree. It's modern and cool as fuck. That is why eBay bought it for a quarter mil.

That's precisely why appraisals should be forward-looking, not just backward-looking. Historical sales are inputs, not a ceiling. A valuation model should account for emerging trends and changing market conditions, not assume the future will look like the past.

The point is they are often less than 2% accurate. It's not that hard to model.

Good. The fewer investors relying on them, the better. These tools apply blanket discounts to alt-TLDs, and every time we defer to them, we surrender more pricing power to third parties that have no business dictating what our domains are worth.

These are arguably the easiest domains to value. They just sold. That's what someone was willing to pay, even if the broader market disagrees. For an industry so reliant on comps, incorporating actual sales into valuation models with a reasonable lag is the bare minimum.

The point is, these appraisals shouldn't be used as guides at all until they do a much better job of reflecting actual market values.

@Dynadot is one of our top 3 registrars, but its valuation model is somehow worse than @atomHQ, just for a different reason. runtime.si sold for $28,888. Dynadot values it at $1,181. That's 4.1% of the actual sale price.

It makes a huge difference. It is a serious problem that is not widely appreciated or talked about. That's why we are trying to draw attention to the issue. It is particularly problematic for any TLD that doesn't end in .com.

Sure, but if your BIN is set to Make Offer and Dynadot or Atom displays a $1,500 valuation, that's going to anchor buyers' expectations, depress the offers you receive and make negotiations harder.

More examples: staffing.si — $1,514 estimate v. $50,000 sale (3.03%) hollywood.si — $1,772 estimate v. $30,000 sale (5.91%) bot.si — $886 estimate v. $20,000 sale (4.43%) humanizer.si — $349 estimate v. $10,000 sale (3.49%)

A .reviews domain just sold for $13,373, according to NameBio. That's the second-highest publicly reported .reviews sale ever. NameSilo currently has just 93 .reviews domains registered ⏮️ Do you own any .reviews domains?

Product Hunt may not be the best benchmark for .si. Many startups featured there are small and launched by their founders, so the data may not reflect adoption by larger companies or the broader market. We should look beyond Product Hunt before judging .si’s potential.

Mate, I don't think he's taking it as a personal attack. I think he's just using logic to poke holes in your argument.

It's been a month. You're comparing .si to .cloud and .space using Product Hunt data, while hedging your thesis so thoroughly that it means nothing either way. At least you can't be proven wrong.

It wouldn't be so bad if people weren't making pricing and purchasing decisions based on these numbers!

You can still hand register HorseShit.si for $10.95, apparently. @atomHQ values it at $2,500. That's a 228x multiple on your registration fee. 😂

Surprising that GoDaddy stock is only down 66% peak to trough since 2025.
