I am now closing in on 500 .SI domains.
First, I went after the strongest names. I expected their prices to spike first & hardest, making them the hardest to get.
Then I went into the mines. Few people, but there sure was a lot of gold & diamonds lying around.
I don’t usually dig deep into veins, but I found a few worth exploring & mining.
Approaching this extension through superintelligence, I focus on the intent of people who might use it. What is their purpose? What are they trying to achieve? Can a builder see a business he can bring to life?
I have a blueprint from the .COM era, but I have to put on a specialized thinking cap. This opportunity has a narrower focus.
We don’t know whether adoption will happen. That’s business. You take a calculated risk based on what history taught you & what you see ahead.
You place your bet.
At $11.54 a registration, I can explore many possibilities without risking a fortune on each one. One builder with a vision or one meaningful sale can tote the note.
Sometimes you overpay to protect your position. Sometimes to fill in the blanks. Sometimes because you’re late to the game.
You balance that with bargains on other names serving the same purpose.
I can afford to take a risk. What I can’t afford is to sit on the sidelines while something big might be happening.
Whichever way this goes, it will unfold before our eyes. Nobody needs to stand on a mountaintop like Moses proclaiming what WILL or WON’T happen. None of us know.
What I saw was a shift in attention. It sucked the oxygen out of the room overnight. What remains unknown is the sustainability. The viability. The adoption.
Do you think I knew any of that shit in 1995 or 1996?
I didn’t know 1/100th of what I know now. I was blind in a dark mine, learning as I went.
Today, I’m in a different mine. But I’ve brought 30 years of experience, & the damn place is lit up like the sunniest day on earth.
All I ever try to do is get a seat at the table.
The domain name is my passport to that seat.
Nobody invited me to the porno table, the candy table or the property table. I elbowed my way in, whether they liked it or not.
It’s hard to ignore the fat guy with a bunch of chips & sometimes one on his shoulder to match!
Entering an established industry, you have to get noticed. You have to make a splash.
After all these years, in my opinion, a GREAT domain name is still one of the best ways to get a seat at the table.
I’m a .COM guy. I’m ALWAYS going to be a .COM guy. I don’t see anything challenging .COM’s position in the lifetime of anyone reading this.
But I sat on the sidelines through 100s of other extensions. Nearly 2,000 of them.
When .AI & .SI emerged, I saw a place for them in the ecosystem. A purpose I could understand. A business case I hadn’t seen for the others.
Outside .COM, .AI & .SI are the only extensions where I own even 25 names.
I was late to .AI, but I assembled a foundation. I wasn’t as late to .SI. I found a foundation, some gems, & some veins worth mining.
Ask yourself 1 question:
Why would a guy who sat on the sidelines for 30 years watching this domain stampede suddenly jump into .SI with both feet?
@andrewrosener and @amiller325gd have articulated the pitfalls in very well-written pieces. I don’t discount any of it. But I don't agree with all of it.
Their valid concerns don’t erase what I see & they see both the opportunity & the risk.
There’s a big difference between blindly gambling & taking a calculated business risk. I know what I’m risking & why.
If I wanted to be a flipper, I could sell what I’ve bought & make money quickly. But that’s not my game.
I look through the eyes of the BUILDER. The AUDIENCE. The FUTURE. The PROFITABILITY.
People thought I was insane in 1996, buying domains when nobody knew what the hell I was doing.
Maybe I’m as insane in 2026.
But insanity has served me well!
At the end of the day, it comes to gut instinct & I always follow my gut! It has served me well.
Here’s the Bentley’s mileage as of RIGHT NOW. 3521. Garage kept every night of its life since 2010. I think it's only been in the rain twice.
I’m having second thoughts about giving it away. The damn thing is still BRAND NEW and GORGEOUS!
What the hell was I thinking?! I think I had a moment of insanity. 🤣
Oh well, a promise is a promise.
Somebody’s going home with MY Bentley! 🔑

TODAY marks the 22nd anniversary of the first T.R.A.F.F.I.C. show, where Howard Neu and I brought domainers together and helped turn an isolated business into an industry.
For more than 30 years, I’ve also posted nearly every single day. I spend 1 to 3 hours a day writing and posting. Some days more. Some days, MUCH more.
That’s tens of thousands of hours sharing my experience, my reasoning, my mistakes, and my understanding of domains and business in general.
Most of it for the benefit of others.
That’s how I give back.
Unfortunately, this industry has plenty of wise guys who, instead of appreciating the gift, try to shove it up my ass.
But that’s never stopped me.
Never will.
I just send them to Siberia. 🤣🤣
Because among all those wise guys, individuals emerge who GET IT.
They understand it.
They apply it.
They build on it.
Some become millionaires. Years later, they come back and thank me.
That’s why I do it.
My return on that investment is knowing something I shared helped change someone’s life.
That’s my charity.
That's my giving back.
And in my eyes, more valuable than money.
Teach a man to fish......
It reaches people one by one, even when I never know who’s reading.
My contribution is my TIME. My KNOWLEDGE. My EXPERIENCE. My willingness to explain what I see and WHY I see it.
You can use it. You can dismiss it. You can disagree and explain why.
But only a fool would spend his time attacking the person sharing it instead of examining whether there’s something there worth learning.
I believe in karma.
My job is to keep sending good waves into the world. Messages in corked bottles that may reach someone today, or someday. someone I never met and probably never will.
The residue is goodwill and I believe the universe recognizes that.
And like other priceless things I’ve developed in life, it can’t be bought. It’s earned, one gesture at a time.
One lesson shared.
One costly mistake avoided.
One person who sees an opportunity they would have missed.
Hard earned knowledge from the school of hard knocks, shared so someone else might find a win instead of a loss.
That’s my charity.
That’s my goodwill.
And that’s how I try to give back every day of my life. My writings and the world are my witness.
From pioneering alone in the mines, in the dark, learning as I went, to T.R.A.F.F.I.C. with my partner Howard beside me. He had stage presence, and I had stage fright. But somehow, because it mattered so much, I found the courage to stand before hundreds of people. My passion for domains overrode something I had feared all my life.
And now, the final frontier: the Beanstalk Challenge.
Over the years, the phrase I’ve used more than any other is “life-changing.” I try to do things that are life-changing for me and for others.
22 years later, you can still see how T.R.A.F.F.I.C. changed lives. Mine and others.
Now the Beanstalk Challenge carries that same life-changing vision into the future.
Thanks for coming along for the ride!
Thanks for being part of the story!
Thanks for sharing these life-changing moments!
I own a domain that could represent $1 MILLION PER YEAR in lost sales for the company advertising the name.
The reason I know so much about domain leakage?
I’m the fucker getting the leaks!!!
The latest example is Nuzzle .com.
Here’s the traffic. Here’s the math.
I bought it at auction a few years ago for $11,648. Now it’s getting about 100,000 annual visits and makes about $2000/year on PPC. That's about a 17% annual return on an appreciating asset.
Why?
There’s a pillow company called Nuzzle advertising on TV. Their website is Nuzzle something .com or something Nuzzle .com
I can't even remember it myself. 🤣
People remember NUZZLE. They type Nuzzle .com into their browser. They land on MY domain.
Their advertising. Their money. My traffic. My benefit.
Not only that, I believe I see programming mistakes in their own site because some days I see it zoom up to 1600 visitors. That's either from very heavy advertising or an engineer working for them having the traffic going to the wrong place, namely my place!
These people aren’t finding me through a search engine. They’re typing the name directly into their browser.
That’s how the REAL WORLD works. And that makes their intent very potent.
They aren’t all guaranteed customers. But when someone remembers your advertised name and types it into their browser, that’s traffic worth understanding. It's the most potent traffic in the world.
Below is an offer I received in January. I don’t know whether it came from the pillow company. But let's assume it was. The economics of this traffic deserve a closer look.
They offer $16,500 and I respond with a vague nothing counter.
So based on 100,000 visits per year.
At that pace, that’s ONE MILLION visits over 10 years. Which could grow with their success. Or diminish with their lack of success.
What would those visits be worth if they reached the intended business?
At a 10% conversion rate, that’s 10,000 orders.
At a $100 average order, that’s:
$1,000,000 PER YEAR IN POTENTIAL SALES.
Even at a 1% conversion rate, that’s 1,000 orders and $100,000 in potential annual sales.
That does not count people that buy different types of pillows and end up with a $500 order.
Those conversion rates and order values are assumptions. But I can tell you this from my own experience.
Closing rates on just general traffic is 1 in 10,000 or less. With typ-in traffic, it could easily be 20 in 1000. That's the difference in the potency.
The traffic arriving at my domain is what I can measure. How much they ultimately lose depends on how many visitors would have bought and how many eventually find their way back.
But dismissing the leakage doesn’t make it disappear. Not understanding it is derelict!
And finally, ignoring it, is next to criminal if you're a business owner. Your job is to make damn sales, not to lose them.
Your job is to make sure there are no leaks. I don't care what damn business you're in. It's your number one job.
And the cost can extend beyond that first order. A customer you never acquire can’t become your repeat customer. Your advertising has to work harder to produce the growth you should have received.
Companies will scrutinize their advertising costs while overlooking where the audience actually lands.
Do the math.
Being cheap is very expensive!
And what's the invisible cost of the growth of your company being slowed and stunted?
This is a blind spot for businesses, and they never have learned it for the most part.
This isn’t my best example. I have another domain receiving more than 10,000 visits a day from people trying to reach another business.
So when people want to lecture me about domain leakage, they better sure as hell know what the fuck they’re talking about.
Bullshit isn’t going to land well with someone who can see the traffic arriving for 3 decades.
I already have the data and 30 years of it.
Others talk out of their asses.
I talk with numbers.
That’s the difference.
I can’t believe how many domain investors use meaningless metrics to value a domain name.
“It’s registered in 250 extensions!”
Who gives a shit? I sure as hell don't.
How many of those registrations represent successful businesses?
That’s the question.
You will be counting domainers buying the same crap in different extensions.
You will be counting businesses protecting their brands.
Who gives a shit?
Neither tells me what someone can build on the name. Neither tells me about value.
Tell me there are 80 successful businesses using that name across other extensions. Now you’ve told me something meaningful. There are audiences. There are commercial uses. There are businesses making it work.
Registration alone proves none of that.
It's meaningless besides being silly.
“It was registered in 1995!”
So what? Again, who gives a shit? It doesn't make the domain worth one penny more!
It either means something or it doesn’t. It either has an audience or it doesn’t. Can a company build its WORLD HEADQUARTERS on it? Or not??
Stop measuring what’s easy to count while ignoring what actually matters.
The mines are open. You can walk in and register names all day long. And many will still walk out with worthless garbage because, after all these years, they don’t know what they’re looking for.
Following other people's mistakes doesn't help you pick a winner.
I post the names I acquire so you can see my thought process. What I believe has value today. What I believe could have value tomorrow. What a builder could use. What a business could grow into.
I’m looking for audiences, commercial purpose, and the foundation for a company’s world headquarters.
I stay away from swampland with no audience.
Counting how many other people bought the swampland doesn’t make it valuable.
The name itself is the only thing that has value ir not. None of the other bullshit counts.
I can find pigeon shit registered in hundreds of extensions all day long.
The only ones that care are the ones that own the pigeon shit.
So if you don’t own pigeon shit, stop using other people’s pigeon shit as a valuation metric. It makes you look like a rookie.
I am now up to 255 hand registrations, including another 123 this morning.
Without Betty .si:
332 names, $52,977.19 total
$159.57 average.
Including Betty .si:
333 names
$70,477.19 total
$211.64 average.
Breakdown:
71 purchases at $67,431.17
255 hand registrations at $2,962.02
7 brand-protection registrations at $84.
319 .SI domains, including Betty .si.
318 .SI domains without Betty .si.
12 .COM, 1 .AI, 1 .TV.
And last night I went into the mines for just 2 hours and hand registered another 104 .si domains.
Just sitting pretty!
What happened with the .SI extension just a little over two weeks ago was a domain industry earthquake. The ground shifted under us without warning.
The game changed. .AI had a cousin and a rival at the same time: .SI.
Most of us didn’t see it coming. Kudos to those who did.
I believe that earthquake is going to have major casualties. Between .AI and .SI, the new gTLDs & the ones coming online just got a gut punch.
Who knew 2 long shots, ccTLD's, could emerge to challenge the alternatives & stand alongside .COM?
For years, I described what was going on as a stampede.1500+ horses in a race where only 3 could finish in the money.
Right now, .COM, .AI and .SI are the 3 I’m watching. Whether .SI earns lasting standing is still an open question.
Here’s what I’ll be looking for: @DNJournal’s next sales report. I want to see what the numbers look like. What is this new shooting star made of?
You can already see the results @NameBio
Nobody can say with certainty how this will unfold. But there are clues. Weigh the evidence. Stay objective. Pay attention to the market cuz the market will decide. None of us gets the deciding vote.
Our job has always been to get ahead of the market. We don’t chase markets. We anticipate them.
That’s what investors do. They get ahead of the tide. They get ahead of the wave. They get ahead of the future.
But let me say this as clearly as I can: marginal domains will not cut it.
Focus on meaningful, 1-word domain names. Why waste your time with silly stuff at the beginning of a gold rush?
A gold rush doesn’t guarantee gold in every shovel. We’ll see how much lasting value emerges when these names get to market. That’s still unknown.
Is there a need? Is there want? Is there desire? Is there use? Is there a benefit?
For the right domain names, I believe the answer is yes. But you still have to pick the right names. That goes for every extension. That IS the game.
I expect this shift to put downward pressure on marginal names in other extensions. To me, we’re watching attention & speculative money consolidate in real time, whether people like it or not.
SURPRISE!
Do you hear that sucking sound?
That’s the sound of money flowing through fewer funnels than it did just days ago.
Many domainers will drop whatever they’re doing &, for better or worse, spend their time digging for .SI. Money & attention redirected there are money & attention unavailable somewhere else.
That’s where I see pressure coming for other extensions.
This happens in every industry. Marketing & business evolve. New alternatives change where people spend their time & money.
Regardless of the long-term outcome, this looks like an immediate & sharp turn.
Will many .SI registrations simply be protection for existing .AI businesses? Of course!!
It was the first thing I did.
I bought Betty .si because I had to protect what I already had in Betty .ai. That was a business decision. Leaving that opening was a risk I wasn’t willing to take.
If I own the .COM, I don’t feel the same need for other extensions. If I’m building a business on .AI, however, I have to consider what a competing name on .SI could mean for my brand.
For my business, owning both made sense.
The headwinds facing other extensions could become stronger than anything they’ve experienced before.
That’s my take. It doesn’t mean I’m right. But that’s what I see unfolding, given the circumstances.
Now we watch what the market actually does.
I speak earl & I speak clearly. I don’t wait for the outcome to show up with an opinion.
Read what I said in 2013 & 2014 about the stampede.
Read what I said in 1996 & 1997.
And perhaps more importantly, read what I wrote last year.
I said 2026 would be a monster of a year & 2027 would be even bigger.
I’ve always taken a strong stand while explaining the pros, the cons & what could change my mind.
30+ years of putting my judgment on the record. That’s how credibility is earned. On the record. For the record.
ATTENTION BEANSTALK CHALLENGE BUILDERS!
Please check your email. Important instructions have been sent regarding your business summary, Miami attendance and Yacht Day.

What are you building?
Who does it serve?
What have you accomplished?

Think of it as your two-minute elevator pitch. Make every sentence count.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Friday, October 23, at 5 PM Eastern.
Please also confirm whether you will attend @NamesCon in Miami and Yacht Day on November 10 at 10 AM.
If you haven’t received the email, contact me immediately. It’s your responsibility to make sure you have the information and meet the deadline.
Let’s show the judges what you’re building!
Silence! Do you hear that sucking sound? Listen carefully! You don’t hear that sucking sound?
You don’t hear .COM, .AI, and .SI sucking all the oxygen out of all the other extensions out there?
How could you miss it?
It’s happening right before your very eyes!
Just open your eyes and your ears, and you’ll hear that sucking sound swishing by.
I am finished with the aggressive part of putting my .SI portfolio together.
Here is my complete .si portfolio of 90 names. I invested in array of strategic names. It doesn't take that many to get a seat at the table.
And the bonus is I get to look at it through the eye of a domain investor, which keeps me safe, and then through the eye of a builder that allows me to dream.
I have a well rounded group of names of which one success pays for all others. That's been my formula for 30 years. It's a group. It's a seat at the table. I don't have to have 89 winners. I have to have one or two winners that make the others not losers.
And as I do with so many other things, I built this portfolio in front of everybody in exactly one week. From nothing. From scratch. I'm comfortable with my acquisitions. It's like popcorn. They don't all have to pop for it to be a winner.
And just like the beanstalk, these were me planting seeds. You have to plant seeds before you can reap the rewards. Some of them are gonna germinate. Some of them won't. Maybe none of them will germinate.
But I have 6500 others that just takes one to germinate. It won't matter, and that's the point you're buying time and you're expanding at the same moment. And when you do your job right, everything pays for itself, and the risk is minimal.

Like so many other things I do, I do it in public. I built this entire portfolio in public. I was NOT early to the game. I was late.
But I also want to demonstrate what the early adopters bought and should’ve bought for $12.
Now, because I wasn’t an early mover, I had to pay a penalty. That’s the way of the world. It’s been like that for thousands of years. And I have no problem doing it.
Plus, they did the heavy lifting and the mining. My job was to recognize the possible future precious, gems.
I don’t sit there and say, “Oh my God, he paid $12. Why should I pay $3500?”
So I have a stake. You can agree or disagree with which direction this will go, but it’s a calculated business risk. One that I’m very comfortable with.
I have only dabbled in a handful of extensions for over three decades.
.com, .tv, .co, .io, .ai and .si
.com, .ai & .si are the only three I have a significant investment in?
And maybe that $35,498.67, excluding Betty, will be gone.
But let’s look back. CoinBook .com in that auction I challenged as fraudulent would’ve cost me $33,000.
When I compare the two, I’m much more comfortable going into the future with these names.
And I’m a realist. I’m realistic about life. These may have no value whatsoever or could be worth millions of dollars. I don’t know. Nobody does.
But I put myself at intersections that could be valuable to builders and others as the future unfolds.
I don’t chase the past. I embrace the future.
And the future has historical fingerprints that are very easy to follow when you pay attention.
I placed my bets. I put my money where my mouth is. And I explained my thought process along the way.
That's how it's done.
Just follow the Yellow Brick Road.
