If a bank has ever turned you down, or quoted you a rate that made you walk out, this one is for you.
Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said today that with inflation holding in single digits, there is room to cut interest rates further. But the decision is not his. It belongs to the Monetary Policy Committee, an independent body under the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. So today we got a signal, not a cut.
Here is how we got here.
The Reserve Bank's policy rate opened 2026 at 35%. It came down to 30% in June, then 27.5% in September.
Annual inflation, as reported by Reuters, was 2.9% in August and 3.7% in September. October's figure is not out yet.
Yet in early September, commercial banks were reportedly still lending at 44% to 47%.
Why does inflation drive interest rates? Imagine lending someone money for five years. If prices could double next year, you have no idea what their repayments will be worth, so you charge a premium or refuse to lend long. When prices are steady, you can plan, and long-term credit becomes possible.
So why not cut faster? Because cutting too early is how inflation returns, and few people know that cost better than Zimbabweans. Stability first, careful easing after. It is slower and less exciting, but it is the approach that lasts.
The headline rate is only half the story. The other half is the gap between the 27.5% the Reserve Bank charges and the 44% or more you are charged at the counter. Stability is only worth what it puts in the hands of the farmer, the small manufacturer and the young family trying to build.
If the next round of cuts closes that gap, 2026 will be remembered as the year Zimbabwe stopped fixing its economy and started growing it.
Watch the next Monetary Policy Committee decision. Then watch your bank.

ZODWA MKANDLA FOUNDATION HANDS OVER SCIENCE LABORATORY TO SOJINI HIGH SCHOOL
On 30 October 2026, the Zodwa Mkandla Foundation officially handed over a new science laboratory to Sojini High School in Mbembesi Village, outside Bulawayo—the philanthropist's former school. The facility, built in just two weeks in partnership with South African company Afribiz Invest, was unveiled at a ceremony officiated by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Professor Torerai Moyo in attendance. Beyond education, the outreach distributed 200 food parcels, blankets and wheelchairs to elderly residents, while nearly 400 girls received dignity pads—combining learning infrastructure with community welfare support.

There is an episode of SpongeBob that explains Zimbabwean opposition politics better than any political science book.
In that cartoon, Patrick Star does nothing. Absolutely nothing smart. He sits, he drools, he says something stupid. But the other sea creatures decide he is a god.
They follow him everywhere. If Patrick scratches his head, they scratch their heads. If he says "Is mayonnaise an instrument?" they write it down like it is philosophy🤣🤣. They treat every dumb, accidental thing he does as deep wisdom.
Patrick, of course, enjoys it. He has no idea what is happening, he has no plan, he has no teaching, but he loves the attention. So he plays god. He lifts his hands, he blesses them with nonsense, and they cheer louder.
That is exactly what @nelsonchamisa and his followers are doing.
@nelsonchamisa does nothing on the ground. No structures, no party, no strategy, no accountability. His only work is a Tweet in the morning, a Bible verse in the evening, and a promise that "God is in it."
And his followers have internalized it as divine work. They will defend a Tweet like it is a liberation war plan. They will copy and paste his cryptic verses and call it strategy.
If he says "We won twice," they clap. If he says "We are in the wilderness," they fast. If he disappears for three months, they say he is being strategic.
Doing nothing has become doing something, because the god has spoken.
Patrick never asked to be a god, but he enjoyed being worshipped too much to tell the truth. Mujaya also enjoys it too much to tell the truth
And we know how every Patrick episode ends. The same way.
In the end, it blows up in his face. The crowd leaves. Bikini Bottom goes back to normal. Patrick goes back to sitting under his rock.
That is the danger of politics turned into worship. You don't get a leader. You get a cartoon. You don't get freedom. You get followers waiting for a god who was never there.

For those of us wondering where the money goes to that retailers pay for Halaal certification, it is important to know first who is in charge. This is Sheikh Riad Fataar Al-Azhari, the president of the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) in South Africa, one of the certification bodies. He is also the
Imaam (preacher) of Masjid Al-Khair in Weltevreden Park and Chairman of MJC Burial Administration. He got his education at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt and holds master's degrees from the International Peace College South Africa (IPSA).
Two years ago he made controversial statements that led to public attention and backlash from organizations like the South African Jewish Board of Deputies and Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein after declaring "I am Hamas, Cape Town is Hamas" during a rally. He defended his remarks as political and humanitarian advocacy for Palestinians rather than an incitement to violence, while receiving backing from local political figures including the Western Cape branch of the ANC as well as Al Jamah. It is important to understand the backlash. Many people.get radicalized at their mosques by their Imaams who preach or spread radical Islam. Remember the Thulsie twins from Cape Town wanted on a terrorist charge, they were radicalized at their mosque.
Sheikh Riad Fataar Al-Azhari (and the Muslim Judicial Council) also works actively with the Gift of the Givers. They collaborate in public demonstrations, humanitarian fundraising, and political advocacy mostly for Palestine and Hamas. This is why it was so easy for the Palestinians that were snuck into the country to find a home in Cape Town and surrounds. It is equally sad because Cape Town has the highest gang death rates in the country predominantly amongst Coloureds and we never see this level.of advocacy.
Hamas has been designated a terrorist organisation by United States, United Kingdom, Canada, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand. It doesn't believe in democracy because the last time there were elections in Gaza was in 2006 when they won elections. It is brutal on any opposition and it is in this same Gaza where there is a neighborhood called Al-Abeed (or Harat al-Abeed) which means the place of slaves where black people are permitted to reside. It is apartheid based on race except instead of the K-word you are called slave. Why? The Arab Slave trade that has been active since 7th century until now.
So, knowing this, where do you think the Halaal money goes to? Take note that the overall industry valuation (total broader Halaal manufacturing, service, and retail sector) in South Africa is valued at approximately R45 billion. That money can't simply be for operational costs. As always follow the money.
