Why does ordering from the “senior” menu or getting into events for a senior rate isn’t as bad as your physician telling you since you are 65, you need the pneumonia vaccine. In my mind, that is for “old” people. I guess I’m there.
You know you are a farmers wife when you drive 4 miles to town to walk 1.2 miles vs dodging tractors on a gravel road. It will make more sense when I’m back to 3+ miles after a total knee replacement on August 14th.
1st world issues. Steak for noon, hubby forgot there was a free steak supper sponsored by John Deere so he's having it twice today.
The look on my face when I wake up, go into the living room only to see it’s 1:16am. That is just wrong.
Worst couple activity to do together? My vote today is painting a small bathroom that has no light in it due to remodeling it. And yes we are doing it at night because we had to wait for the texture to dry and the carpenters are back tomorrow.
Colonoscopy prep is brutal and you’ll never convince me otherwise. However, I keep having them every 3 years because I like life.
Caught up with one of my at-risk students. 10 years since I've seen him and it was special! He got his GED and had a perfect score in math. I told him I always knew he was smart and he glowed. I told him to reach for the stars and to message me if he needed support. Good Day!
Flies buzzing around my head in the house are just slightly better than when you walk outside and they draw blood. Both are annoying as heck.
The Minnesota Lynx announced that the club will be adding sellable seats at Target Center when the Fever comes to town on both July 14 and Aug. 24. Tickets for 200 (upper) level seats will go on sale Friday, May 10 at 9 a.m. by logging on to Ticket Central or 612-673-8400.
Long story but worth the read.
I'm trying to understand how private schools can take public money yet still have "private property" signs by their playgrounds. Shouldn't they be open to all as public school playgrounds in our area are?
Dish network has the worst customer service. Bill went up $30/month after pausing service for 3 months. But I can call back tomorrow to try to get a lower promotional rate. This is after being a "loyal customer" for 16 years. @dish

Years ago, I had the unfortunate task of trying to teach a math class that simply could not stop talking. It didn’t matter if I was facing the dry erase board or the students themselves; if I said something, they said something, if I said something else, they said something else. All. period. long. Every. single. day. Threats of trips to the principal didn’t matter. Letters home didn’t matter. And these kids liked me too! Didn’t matter. The chatter continued incessantly.
One day, in a fit of frustration and dread as I was about to launch into another problem at the board, I blurted out, “Okay, nobody talks this time - 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘦!”
And shockingly, as I worked my way through the problem, no one did.
And even more shockingly, when I asked them how I had just 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘥 the problem, most of their hands shot into the air.
Thinking this may have just been a fluke, I launched into another problem the same way.
Same result.
Another problem.
Same result.
For the first time all year, we got through a whole class period without me wanting to pull my rapidly graying hair out in clumps the entire time.
Then came the biggest shock of all: when the students filtered into class the next day, they immediately asked, “Can you do that silent thing again today?”
I had discovered 𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨, which I subsequently learned is an actual thing.
Naturally, I used this strategy with all of my classes for the rest of that year. And I was literally astounded by the results - students now focused on the content and asked meaningful questions, and I was able to cover way more content, and maintain my personal sanity to boot.
Since that time, I’ve reflected on what makes this strategy so successful. My thoughts follow…
