9/11 changed the world—and my family. My son Joe felt called to serve. I felt pride & fear. We were fortunate—he came home from Iraq & Afghanistan. On this 25th anniversary, let's remember those we lost, who served & a generation whose lives were changed.

63 years ago today, I joined thousands at the March on Washington. I still remember the crowd, our common purpose, and MLK’s words ringing out from the Lincoln Memorial. Progress depends upon all of us—to organize, march, vote and persist. The work must continue—and so must hope.
As you can see from these photos, the pleasure was all mine! What a thrill it was to meet the incredible AI-powered Teddy Roosevelt thanks to the @TRPresLibrary @Microsoft @BradSmi & so many dedicated & passionate professionals who have brought TR to life! Any guess what I asked?
I’ve been a long-time fan of @DorisKGoodwin and it was an absolute delight to meet her at the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. Watching one of America’s foremost presidential scholars put Microsoft’s AI-powered Teddy Roosevelt avatar through its paces was remarkable.
Built on thousands of Roosevelt’s writings, letters, speeches, and historical records, the experience uses @Microsoft AI and cloud technology to make decades of archival material more accessible while opening new opportunities for historical scholarship. It’s exciting to see how technology can help bring Roosevelt’s ideas, leadership, and legacy to life for a new generation. #TRPL #AIForGood @TRPresLibrary
If it’s Sunday, it’s Meet the Press. And this one is even more special as we commemorate America at 250. @MeetThePress @kwelkernbc
THIS MORNING on a special edition of @MeetThePress:
➡️ Documentary filmmaker @KenBurns
➡️ Presidential historian @DorisKGoodwin
➡️ Smithsonian secretary Lonnie Bunch
Bully for @TRPresLibrary! What an absolutely triumphant opening it was in Medora, ND, for the new #TheodoreRoosevelt library. My favorite exhibit, "Talk with TR," features a life-sized, @Microsoft AI-powered representation of TR that interacts with visitors in real time. #TR250
The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library is officially open!

Always a joy to talk with my friend David Rubenstein—bestselling author & one of our nation's great champions of history. @cspan we discussed my newest book, inspired by the last adventure my husband & I shared before he died, & stories about my "boyfriends" Teddy & Abe & more!
SUNDAY: America's Book Club with Doris Kearns Goodwin (@doriskgoodwin) at @CapitolHistory – 6pm ET on C-SPAN c-span.org/americas-book-clu…
Some exciting to share! shorturl.at/ueXuM
Today’s the day! My most personal book—the one that matters most to me—is out in paperback. A labor of love. I worried it would bring sadness, but it’s brought joy instead. It means so much to share stories of the 1960s—my late husband, and the activism and hope of that decade.
Coming April 14, "An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s" by @DorisKGoodwin
The #1 'New York Times' bestseller from “America’s historian-in-chief” (New York magazine) that artfully weaves biography, memoir, and history. She takes you along on the emotional journey she and her husband, presidential speechwriter Richard (Dick) Goodwin, embarked upon in the last years of his life.

OTD 61 years ago, President LBJ delivered his historic “We Shall Overcome” address, calling on the nation to guarantee all Americans the right to vote. Doris @morningjoe reflected on that moment—a personal one—and why voting should not be a partisan issue.

When Mary Lincoln needed $6,700 more for White House upgrades, the president refused “bills for flub-dubs,” saying it would “stink in the land” to spend lavishly “when poor freezing soldiers lacked blankets.” Lincoln's were public funds & today's $300M (not billion) are donated $
What a joy to collaborate w/@kevincostner on "Kevin Costner's The West" an 8-part miniseries debuting @HISTORY Monday night 9pm ET/PT. Kevin was a great teacher & became a friend. We are lucky to have the support & expertise of the best historians to tell these compelling stories
I wish Dick Goodwin could have seen this beautiful tribute by Brian Williams. 7 years ago today Dick died. While I miss him so very much, he stays alive in my heart & mind through the stories I tell. He was funny, principled, passionate & believed deeply in the promise of America
What a day @concordma250th @nationalparkservice North Bridge w/@MassGovernor #MedalofHonor recipient James C. McCloughan & @concordmuseum w/@250america's @RosieRios & @goodwintunes to mark the shot heard 'round the world & the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution's start.
I appreciate joining Anderson @AC360 to discuss the importance of learning & understanding our history—all of it. It is disturbing that in 1963 (not 1863!) the Children's Crusade faced assault. But that action fired the conscience of America and led to the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
Excited to share this news! ❤️

History matters: the Civil Service system, merit-based & nonpartisan, was instituted in the 1880s to replace the spoils system set up by President Jackson, which saw party loyalists, friends & family get government jobs on the basis of WHO they knew, rather than WHAT they knew.
“I can’t even imagine what the morale is in the government services right now with all this talk of what is going on and we need them, they’re us”: Presidential Historian @DorisKGoodwin joins Anderson to reflect on the first two weeks of the Trump presidency.

.@DorisKGoodwin talks to @kasie about historical parallels between Trump's inaugural address & past presidents:
"Franklin Roosevelt always talked, if he could, in one- syllable words people could connect to... There is a sense of, we're talking to people where they are."

In a new episode of @andersoncooper's @CNN podcast "All There Is," he & Doris discuss how historic figures dealt with grief, and how they have.
