I was too young to remember our evacuation from Laos, but I'm told my mom carried both my older sister and me on each arm, crowded into a C-130 plane, just like the ones now coming out of Afghanistan. Strength to women, children, and all who are vulnerable in that region. 🙏🏾
Congratulations @billritter7, @rosannascotto, @sidrosenberg19 and other @NYSBroadcasters Hall of Fame Honorees!!! Our @wrhuradio students from @HofstraU/@HerbertSchoolHU are humbled that each of you took time to talk and gift your wisdom!!! – at Manhattan, NY

🔴 As Russia is gaslighting the world, framing the humanitarian catastrophe in Oleshky as yet another instance of “Ukrainians bombing themselves”, SM platforms slow down the reports from the ground, as usual.
Here is an important exclusive report, hidden from the world.

Word reached me today that retired NPR host Noah Adams passed away Friday.
We were not close, but Noah unintentionally showed me one of life's most important lessons. It said a lot about him so I'd like to share.
It was Thanksgiving in our brand new HQ on Mass Avenue. On Thanksgiving my routine was eating in the afternoon with family and then napping before my nightshift. I'd make it to work right at my starting time because the news was slim, what the White House served for dinner and football games.
I got there at 9 and went straight to the cafeteria to buy a soda pop before my shift. When I got there I found Noah on his hands and knees scraping the floor with a small, straight edged razor blade we usually used to cut tape.
In those days, the All Things Considered staff threw a “family” Thanksgiving dinner. Here it was, hours later, and Noah was still there. Noah’s job, typically, was to roast the turkey not cleaning up.
He was scraping smooshed stuffing from the floor. I was shocked. One of the most famous broadcasters in all of public radio was under a table cleaning.
“Noah,” I asked, is everything ok?” “Yes,” Noah said, “I promised Murray I would leave the cafeteria the way I found it.” Murray was our building and infrastructure guy. All at once I felt insignificant in the face of Noah’s gesture. I stammered an apology about needing to be in the newsroom and he told me it was ok.
I still reflect on that moment. I knew the lessons but came away with an adult’s understanding. Leadership. Integrity. Caring for everyone in your universe no matter their station in life. Humility. The list goes on. Every time I think about that brief encounter I realize something new.
Thank you, Noah, for having such an impact on me. Among my treasured memories, you are among the top.

Giving away territories to Russia in exchange for peace is not an option: Ukrainians under Russian occupation are starved, hunted with drones, executed, and left with their dead unburied.
In Russian-occupied Oleshky, the reality is worse than Bucha.

Volunteers from more than 250 groups and companies spent four days helping the non-profit @911day group meal pack inside the @ussintrepid. Our @wrhuradio's Jonathan Padilla was there and filed some great reports. More TK tomorrow on our broadcasts from 8am to 9am!
“I just heard too, dai,” he said, the words coming out in one breath. “I can’t get through to anyone. Not Mummy, not Buwa, not my uncle, my aunt — nobody’s phone is even ringing.”

In the devastating floods that severed an entire district from the rest of Nepal, a Kathmandu Post journalist witnessed his childhood village disappear — through fragments of video, and phone calls that stopped connecting.

What is happening in Ukraine right now? In short, Ukrainians are once again showing democracy in action.
President Zelenskyy dismissed the current Cabinet of Ministers, including Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov, who is a widely supported and respected official.
He was the one who personally convinced Elon Musk to cut off russians from Starlink. He was also one of the people behind the successful drone program in Ukraine. Fedorov had less than six months to finish a major military reform that Ukrainians had a lot of hopes for. Many believe that now the reform will be abandoned.
Zelenskyy said that his decision to fire Fedorov is based on a personal conflict between Fedorov and Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. Unlike Fedorov, Syrskyi is widely unpopular among Ukrainians. Syrskyi’s name is also mentioned in a few major scandals in Ukraine. And basically, Ukrainians want Syrskyi to be fired instead of Fedorov.
Symbolically, Syrskyi and Fedorov right now are representing two different mindsets. One is the old post-USSR military approach, and another one is the modern high-tech approach.
Zelenskyy’s decision has once again brought Ukrainians into the streets. Many protesters believe that, ahead of a difficult winter, choosing Syrskyi instead of Fedorov and his reform is an existential risk and a major mistake for Ukraine as a country.
“We hear everything and we see everything.” It’s one of the main protesters’ slogans. They’re calling for Syrskyi to be dismissed and for Fedorov to be reinstated so he can finish his reform.
For now, President Zelenskyy doesn’t show any sign of reversing his decision. And protesters are saying they will continue demonstrating for as long as it takes because, quote, unquote, “Ukrainians are the ultimate source of power in the country according to the Constitution.”
