A theme of this time of year reflects on the nature of death and remembering the dead. This gold cast #mementomori ring commemorates an individual. The inner inscription MM obt, 24 nov, 1712 aet 82, likely remembers Mary Matson buried at St.James, #Dover on 28 November 1712.
The engraved decoration features a central motif of a skull facing slightly left with circular eye sockets, eyebrows, a triangular nose and teeth. The hoop is decorated with two flower heads, leaves and tendrils.

On Saturday October 26th, come along for a free craft activity at Dover Museum to create a Halloween black cat decoration. Drop-in from 10:00-3:00. Make a clay cat, take it home and then when it is dry you can paint it and then hang it up with a ribbon!

#Onthisday 26 September 1944. The last cross-channel shell fell on Dover. To commemorate the 80th anniversary there is a temporary exhibition in the museum's ground floor case telling the story of Lilian and Gordon Roper and their war service in Hellfire Corner.

On #worldfashionday we thought we would look at some of the behind-the-scenes work with two of our volunteers who are undertaking important preventative conservation work on items from our textiles collection.

Discovered in 1987 in Deal, the 'Deal Man' is a carved chalk figurine of Celtic design, dated around the late Iron Age or early Roman period, it is a fascinating representation of the human form. Come see it for real in @DoverMuseum!

The half-size reconstruction of the Dover Bronze Age Boat has returned to grounds near Dover Museum. A team of will be working on deconstructing, cleaning and reconstructing the boat ready for its next journey to Paris for an exhibition of the European Bronze Age in 2025.
