A voice of reason @vicgoddard Additionally. those who champion the rankings as evidence of Govian success never mention England's dire position regarding student wellbeing – at Dymock, England
1/9 We’re told England’s rise in the PISA rankings proves Tory reforms raised standards. But rankings alone cannot establish that. Comparing 2009 with 2022, the last PISA assessment under their government, the scores tell a more complicated story.

So much to say about oracy - blog pending - but my inbox flooding with very sensible people saying 'wtf is wrong with everyone'? Why are all the great champions of standards so challenged by students having a voice and learning to express it ? What kind of education is that? And if a high P8 doesn't also embed oracy as a core element - mayyybe it's not all that? Feels like toys being thrown out of the pram ... and blimey, thank god my own children had teachers who actually valued their voices.

1/5 "Cooperative" isn't a soft word for collaboration. It means an institution belongs to the people it serves, and they have a right, not just an invitation, to shape it. What would that mean for England's schools? A thread.

What a superb blog. A voice of reason and hope amid some of the nonsense on here – at Ledbury, England

Ofsted has demonstrably caused harm. It promised change while harm continued. It declared itself changed while harm continued. Now its leadership congratulates itself on being on the ‘right track’. To where, exactly? How much more harm can they be allowed to do…

Lee Owston, Ofsted’s director of education, defends the new framework, in TES, like a serial wife-beater demanding credit for the days he doesn't hit his wife. Look, some people had a lovely experience! So what if others were traumatised? Right? Right...

It is so refreshing to see some common sense on here. – at Dymock, England

A message from us oldies It's about choosing the BLEND of approaches that best matches what & who is being taught at the time. And from what I notice, that's what most teachers are doing. Maths teachers were fortunate in being reminded about this in 1982 (Cockcroft para 243)

The culture of an organisation is largely driven from the top. This will be the same for @Ofstednews . Can real change happen without a change of personnel? 🤔

I seem to have upset the @SuellaBraverman fan club - so let me be clear. This women sows hate, lies and division. She is wrong. She does not represent the vast majority of Britons. RT if you agree P.s. multiculturalism is great.

A little more wisdom and common sense like this would be refreshing
It is possible for children to undertake a traditionally academic curriculum coupled with vocational courses to supplement at both KS4/5. This isn’t the end of the world as we know it.

Repeat after me: reforming the triple lock does not cut anyone’s pension. It reduces the rate at which it will rise. (In an entirely reasonable fashion.)

Once again knowledge, wisdom and empathy from @Edmund_B_W – at Amble, England
I don’t generally engage with inflammatory posts on X. It’s the nature of this platform that being shocking is often a deliberate ploy to provoke engagement and feed the poster’s need for attention. However, I’ll make an exception for @tomhfh ’s grotesquely offensive views…
