Keyhole surgery to minimize risk and maximize benefit to the participant who volunteered for this groundbreaking intervention. Clinical research matters to all! @UHN @Neuralink @elonmusk cbc.ca/news/canada/british-c…
The dura is the brain's armor: a membrane so tough that a surgeon normally cuts through it with a scalpel. For the first time in our clinical trials, we inserted the electrode threads of our implant straight through the dura and into the cortex, keeping the dura intact. Here's how we did it 🧵

Dozens of AI agents, loaded into Minecraft in an experiment and left to their own devices beyond an instruction to build and thrive, instead became Canadians.
Replying to @ycombinator
The agents didn’t figure out how to systematically feed themselves, but they did build an elaborate bureaucracy with permits, ledgers, and distinct roles. Highlights include: - Four agents spending 11 minutes appointing a “sole fertilizer operator” for a single piece of bone meal - Multiple agents asking for permission to remove grass - The development of an elaborate fishing system, including roles like “rod holder” and “hub steward”)

Thanks to the work of the Unbroken and Superhumans centres in #Lviv, adults and children injured during the war have access to comprehensive medical and rehabilitation care. Ambassador Mawhinney visited both centres during her trip to Lviv.

Such awful news from the military base at Wainwright, Alberta, with multiple lives lost and many badly injured. My heart goes out to families and friends, with impact across our armed forces. Immense gratitude to the first responders and medics on the scene.

Preparing for the precariat? Some alternatives to “….selling all you’ve spent your life learning to train bots to replace us all”

Horrific Meanwhile, the president of the United States has spent the last few weeks attacking Ukraine and urging it to stop attacking Russian refineries.
Horrific scenes out of Kyiv this morning as Russia used a jet-powered drone to blow up Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences. People are escaping through windows as the building burns. Just like they target kindergartens and schools, now they are bombing science.

AI chatbots are warm, responsive, and always available. But psychologists say those qualities make them poor substitutes for the messy, effortful work of human relationships, especially for adolescents whose social skills are still forming. Learn more: at.apa.org/20f59e

Is that really a physician—or an AI-generated impersonation? Physician deepfakes are getting harder to spot. In his latest News & Perspectives article, JMIR Correspondent Tejas S. Athni breaks down how these scams can exploit trust, spread misinformation, and trick people into sharing data or spending money. The robot nurse is coming… but what should it actually do? Robots can take on repetitive tasks, but some routine nursing activities are also when clinicians spot subtle changes in a patient. So the question isn’t just “Can a robot do it?” It’s “What might we miss if it does?” Read more: jmir.org/2026/1/e111559/ #Nursing #HealthcareRobotics #DigitalHealth #HealthTech #JMIR #NursingInnovation

Sometimes, a little bit of joy can go a long way. 💙 Yesterday, our Emergency Response Unit took to the roof at London Health Sciences Centre’s Children’s Hospital to bring some smiles to the kids inside. Rappelling down the side of the hospital, our officers waved to children watching from their windows and reminded them that their community is cheering them on. For children and families facing some of their hardest days, moments like these can mean so much. A wave. A smile. A familiar uniform showing up just to make their day a little brighter. We’re proud of our ERU for putting their skills to work in a different way, bringing courage, kindness and a whole lot of smiles to some very special kids. 🙌 #LdnOnt #CommunityPolicing

The path ahead of us isn’t always straight. Or well marked. And we can only see ahead so far. Yet still we take that first step. Otherwise we’ll never know what might lie beyond all our eyes can see. Sometimes we just have to have a little faith. #ldnont #monochrome

Dear @cspan. I am the Jen Gerson whose column you challenged noted American Crypt Keeper @RealPNavarro with yesterday. Your host failed to correct several key falsehoods and I would like the situation remedied. 1) I am not "The Problem." Henceforce, I prefer to be referred to by my proper pronoun "The Whole Ass Problem." 2) I am not an Ontario Liberal. I am a Feral Albertan. This is an entirely different subspecies of Canadian, and the conflation is deeply offensive to me. 3) I have spent years of my career arguing in favour of increased Canadian military spending, against supply management, and in opposition to my country's self-destructive digital laws and policies. Tales From The Crypt over here has my ideological commitments entirely ass-backwards. 4) Like most Canadians who haven't lost their minds, I'm simply capable of understanding that this trade war has nothing to do with delayed pistol procurement, disputes over dual-use infrastructure, or the price of eggs on Tuesday. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”. The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.
