Working on some build speed optimisation algorithms to save resources and energy in #3Dprinting . Using some prototype mirrors as a test case, from a project with @NARIT_Thailand @mapphub @STFC_Matters @DurhamPhysics @msesheffield

New Paper Friday!!! Check out our new paper on using ML for alloy design. Super proud of Joshua Berry and all his hard work on this. doi.org/10.1002/adem.2023020…
Some lattice reinforcement experiments inspired by metallic microstructure. Trialling reinforced unit cells (like a precipitate) and a warped unit cell (to disrupt slip planes). #3dprinting #AdditiveManufacturing @mapphub @RoyceSheffield @msesheffield – at Sheffield, England
A little side project with @RoyceSheffield. On the (very rare) occasions a build doesn’t work, we are looking at ways to turn scrap aluminium into usable wire. @mapphub @msesheffield #AdditiveManufacturing #3DPrinting #Sustainability – at Sheffield, England
A busy week of trial parts, testing the newly upgraded optics on the @aconity3d Mini. @mapphub @RoyceSheffield @msesheffield – at Sheffield, England

Huge congratulations to @ProfIainTodd, who, along with four other academics from the Faculty of Engineering at the Uni of Sheffield, has been elected as a Royal Academy of Engineering Fellow. sheffield.ac.uk/materials/ne…
We're delighted to announce the 73 leading figures from the world of engineering and technology elected to our Fellowship at yesterday's AGM. Meet them all: raeng.org.uk/news/royal-acad… #RAEngFellows

Concluded my interest in tonight’s match after 12 minutes. England can get on with disappointing now. – at Sheffield, England
Some cylinders and basic mirrors, but complex on the inside. Manipulating the microstructure with deliberate voids, that @RoyceSheffield will HIP shut to leave an ideal surface for making a mirror. #AdditiveManufacturing #3DPrinting @mapphub @ukatc @SPIEtweets
A rarity in science. Planned an experiment, ran it, everything worked and we learnt something new. Looking at how HIP treatments can alter diamond turned AM surfaces. @LunchBobs @RoyceSheffield @mapphub – at Sheffield, England
Piggybacking on some porosity experiments with some prototype lily pad inspired mirror designs. #AdditiveManufacturing #3DPrinting @mapphub @RoyceSheffield – at Sheffield, England
Quite a simple #additivemanufacturing experiment but some satisfying results. Some model validation work using aluminium discs with varying struts. Results cover the full range, from perfect to a few struts breaking to total part failure. @mapphub @RoyceSheffield @msesheffield – at Sheffield, England
Building fairly boring shapes this week but lots of interesting data on the inside. Seeing how non-standard hatch patterns can improve overhangs, surface roughness and thin walls. @RoyceSheffield @mapphub @msesheffield #AdditiveManufacturing #3Dprinting
A busy week of builds with the most untested parts last. Working towards stronger meta-lattices by meshing non-aligned lattices in different ways.

Investigating how to best mesh parts built with different laser parameters (hence the gaps). Plus some bonus overhang samples for a @msesheffield UG project. @mapphub @RoyceSheffield #additivemanufacturing #3dprinting – at Sheffield, England
Some snap-off, pre-mounted weld tracks (234) that just need a quick polish. Tried a few new laser strategies to hopefully make weld track analysis faster and more useful. @RoyceSheffield @mapphub #additivemanufacturing #3Dprinting – at Sheffield, England
