Honestly moreso than managing to finish the game in under 2 years (which required unhealthy crunch) I did respect DA2's complete swerve towards a narrative where you get relentlessly crushed by the forces of history in a genre that's usually very "great man" in tone

when Bioware first planned what would eventually become Veilguard, it was supposed to be high spend but create 2 cost controlled sequels. EA told them to make it a live service game. it languished in dev hell until it became what released. you can’t survive that.

the chuds will blame thorson on woke but this is maybe the most clear cut example of C Suite meddling causing the destruction of a studio. they weren’t happy with just profitable games, they needed to chase the live service dragon. then private equity came in and gutted it all.
