It's hardly a suprise that honey bees actively compete with other bee species for nectar and pollen. Bee farmers have understood this issue for years but it's good to have it proven to be true. Honeybees exert flower power over other species - ARU aru.ac.uk/news/honeybees-exe…

Whilst I won't disagree with the state of nature in Wales, can I just clarify that, despite what the report says, there are no such birds as 'mountain blackbird' or 'mountain finch' in Wales. It's also noteworthy that in Wales the Carrion Crow (a species Natural Resources Wales, in collaboration with RSPB Cymru, made virtually impossible to control under GL004, protection of red/amber listed species), a principle predator of nests and fledglings, now has some of the highest population densities here in all of mainland Europe.

I'm hearing reports of significant honey price increases. About bloody time really as 2019 prices in 2025 wasn't cutting it anymore.

Bluetongue continues to spread, with the South West now at the centre of the UK's outbreak. 💉 There have now been 84 confirmed cases across the UK this season, including 81 in England and three in Wales. With more cases emerging, livestock keepers are being urged to: ▪️ Check the bluetongue status of replacement stock ▪️ Speak to their vet about vaccination ▪️ Know the signs and report any suspected cases to APHA FIND OUT MORE: ow.ly/lSNz50ZvK8a

Happy World Bee Day. The vast majority of bees that need your help are solitary and bumblebee species. Honey bees are not at risk of extinction because bee keepers help maintain their numbers. You can help all species of bees by leaving an area of your garden to go wild.

I recently launched the Farm Staff Network, an online and in person community for people that work on farms (in all capacities). A platform for farm staff to connect, learn and help each other out. Farming has never been more isolating and farm staff can often be over looked. So I'm trying to do something about that. Expect - ➡️ Online community covering all sectors, plus non farming conversations about money, wellbeing, fitness, parenting etc ➡️ In person meetups, social / wellbeing stuff and farm walks and tours for professional development. ➡️ Training, career support and job postings. Want to get involved? Sign up here ⬇️ tally.so/r/LZb9zp If your the boss, support you farm team and encourage them to check out FSN 💪

They will have to tear my wood burner out of my (not so cold) dead hands! How the hell do they think rural folk can heat old listed buildings that have no easy or affordable way of insulating or heating alternative other than kerosene? Dead rural folk from fuel poverty instead!🤬

We had a farm cluster meeting today. The importance and value of the data harvest, ie recording what we have on our farms cannot be underestimated

Since people are sharing this a lot, let’s make sure they also know important background information. Honey badgers, like several species of mesopredator, are a major vector for rabies.

It looks like this year’s harvest will be catastrophic. That should be a worry for anyone who eats food. If a disaster on this scale had befallen any other industry, there would be a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth.
