Attempting to phyiscal dominate by putting both hands on another person's shoulders + patronising but misunderstanding the role of international media is not a good look for a senator-elect.
Suggests further and bigger problems down the line.
James Matthews brilliant as always.

There is something about the way in which institutions such as HarperCollins and Alton Towers have abandoned him (The BBC continue to have Little Britain on their iPlayer service, at the time of writing.)
While the theme park might suggest that they regularly assess "elements of our attraction offering”, in somewhat strained language that might have found its way into their former star attraction's books, it is unusual for something so drastic to occur.
Still, librarians and children's teachers everywhere might be breathing a sigh of relief at Walliams's downfall from a purely literary perspective.
His books were – let us be frank – dreadful, a miserable hodgepodge of clichés, stereotypes and tasteless humour that read like Roald Dahl post-lobotomy.

This is Taraneh Alidoosti. The actress who represented Iranian cinema to the world, the star of the film that won the Oscar. What did she do? She posted one photo without the hijab during Woman Life Freedom uprising in 2022 to show her solidarity with the People of Iran .
That is all. She said no to executions, no to the crackdown. That same week they came to her home and took her to Evin prison. When she was released, she was no longer the same Taraneh. Doctors diagnosed her with a rare illness that made her skin fall off and ravaged her body. She is still under treatment.
They say it was caused by drug interaction. Which drugs? What did they give her in that prison? No one answers. Today this photo is going viral across Iran because people want to see the price of one photo without hijab. To the regime it was just a photo.
To us, Taraneh is a woman who gave up everything: her career, her cinema, her health. And even now, in silence, mourning her father, she has not bowed. Taraneh, you did not just remove the hijab. You tore off their mask. We are your voice.

When you strip this down to it's basics, the idea that someone who is not a citizen getting to set the direction of the entire country by deciding its laws is absolutely farcical. It's complete antithesis of representative democracy. Entire episode is to Holyrood's deep shame.

"They appear to have run ahead of what the public want and the rationale for making the change is simply not clear."

I agree with every word of this.
Slavery was an evil in which people from every continent and region participated. We should be honest about the whole history, not select the parts that are politically convenient today, especially given Britain's leading role in ending the transatlantic slave trade.
If Caribbean countries are asking Britain for a formal apology for Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, will they also be asking the same of the descendants of African kingdoms, rulers and merchants who captured, sold and profited from the trade?
On demands for reparations, whether through cash or debt relief, we have been down this track before. Twenty-five years ago, Jubilee 2000, Drop the Debt and Make Poverty History argued that cancelling the debts of poorer countries would give them a fresh start. More than $100 billion of debt was eventually written off, but many of those countries have since built up even bigger debts. Labour are already spending too much on Britain's welfare state, now is not the time for Andy Burnham to be providing global welfare.
There is no reason British taxpayers today should be held financially responsible for things that happened generations before any of us were born. And I have even less patience for political elites in commonwealth countries who don’t know how to make their own citizens prosperous now looking for another opportunity to blame Britain.
As Prime Minister, Andy Burnham should be Britain’s greatest defender. Instead, he is writing articles saying we need to confront our history (as if we haven't done enough of that) and considering another formal historical apology. Tony Blair already expressed Britain’s deep sorrow and regret for our role in the slave trade nearly twenty years ago. There is no need to do so again.
This is all another navel-gazing distraction. The Commonwealth should be looking forward, not endlessly backwards. That means economic partnerships to make us all richer and deeper military and security cooperation against common threats. If every Commonwealth summit becomes an exercise in presenting Britain with demands for cash then we need to start asking if it is worth the effort.

I fear for the Telegraph.
The new German owners are taking a wrecking ball to a fine journalistic institution by sacking 100 journalists ( despite saying they would invest) and pushing out the door the only names worth reading, the latest being the brave and super talented Alison Pearson.
All in favour of cutting costs but what is their big idea?
Some old nonsense about more foreign news (nobody will pay for that) and turning the Telegraph into a global behemoth.
That definitely won’t happen.
My advice is to take a tip from the financially successful Times;
Invest heavily in journalism and journalists, disclose information not available elsewhere, keep your good writers fed and watered.
I know there is nobody at the Telegraph, from the Editor downwards not concerned at their future and the future of the title.
These are tough times for the media, not made easier by these owners destroying their own £600million investment and the enjoyment of their readers.
