This. For the vast vast majority of people, true “speed work” is unnecessary. That doesn’t mean you never run “fast”. It just means that “speed” is not, and most likely will never be, your limiter.
Here's an easy way to see if you need more speed work. Plug your current 5K time into a race equivalency calculator and look at the mile time it predicts. I'd bet that for at least 95% of you, your real mile is faster than the prediction. In some cases much faster. If your 5K is 25:00, the calculator might say around 7:20 but you could probably run sub 7:00. That gap means you have more speed than your endurance can support. In other words, you don't need more "sped work" and more hard 200s and 400s won't fix your shit aerobic endurance.

As always, your yearly reminder that fireworks are stupid and harmful. Please don’t support them. Thank you. You may return to your regularly scheduled patriotism.

After elbow reconstruction from a fall in 2019, I no longer have the range of motion to do a legit pull up. First world problems but does make me sad. Just a movement I’d like to train and can’t.
If you can do 10/5 perfect strict pull ups, you have an elite level of bodyweight to strength compared to the general population. 99 out of 100 people you see on a daily basis can't do 10/5 legitimate pull ups.

The goal for a LOT of people is not pure “health” or “longevity”. Unhealthy things can be fun. They can also be rewarding. Just because someone doesn’t see “the purpose” or benefit doesn’t mean it isn’t there for someone else. We don’t all have the same goals.
"Yeah, but if you don't stay up late drinking every once in a while, are you even really living?" That's 'living'?! We're in a full-blown Stockholm syndrome situation with our unhealthy lives.

In my opinion, this mostly stems from 1) arbitrary goals, like “breaking 3 hours” and 2) complete misinterpretation of training paces. “I was able to do XYZ in training so that means I should do XYZ in a race”. It doesn’t. It doesn’t remotely means that.
Elite v Amateur pacing strategies in a nutshell... The second strategy is not only much slower... It's also very bad for your health!

Athletes who workout in the morning, remember it takes a few days to feel the effects of Daylight Saving time. If you’re feeling really tired and groggy right now, that’s why. Give yourself some grace through the weekend and well into next week to adjust.

As the original post said, fuck Austin in the summer. I was there for a wine event in the summer and went for a run at 5am. Was 100 degrees and so humid, it looked like I just jumped in a pool after 5 mins. Fuck that. SoCal always…..weather is my #1
Move to Austin! It gets better very year. So many cool, world-class people are moving to Austin from SF, LA, NY, London and many other parts of the world! Austin++

I wonder how fast the fasted cheetah was/is. Think about how slow we ALL are compared to Usain Bolt. Now image the Usain Bolt of Cheetahs. Man, that’s like a 100mph cheetah.

Reading tweets of pro MAGA on the cabinet appointments, it’s so very clear that all they care about is making “libs” mad. That’s all they’ve ever wanted to do. There’s zero interest in competency. It’s just about hating the same people. That’s what Trump stokes.

This POS was a cop in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Any guesses on what would have happened to you if you said “I’m a taxpayer, you work for me?” at that time…before body cameras…..
Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the next Border Czar “This is a Circus” “I’m a Taxpayer, you work for me” I FREAKING LOVE Tom Homan 🔥

Your reminder that the president has far less impact on your daily life as does your local government. Do you even know your mayors name? When they are elected? Who’s on the city council and when they are elected? If you feel helpless, start there.

Throughout history, large groups of people have ALWAYS done horrible things. Not sure why anyone is “shocked” at the outcome of the election. It’s right on brand in many ways. At this moment it doesn’t even register on the list of bad things humans have done. But time will tell.

So…..do I get to pick my internment camp? Or is that done geographically?

I knew this wasn’t going to happen right when I turned on the TV at 5pm pacific. It just “felt” like 2016 all over again.

Imagine on the one hand, you could become president of the United States today….and on the other hand, you could go to jail. That’s an impressive dichotomy.

Last pick of harvest tomorrow morning I’m ready to be done. Removing all the vineyard visits and pickups will really help get some more sleep. Lots of winery work ahead the next few weeks but I’m excited to get some rest.

“Entitled?” Wtf? The guy is literally breaking the law and blocking the bike lane. Is it “no big deal” if he stopped in the middle of the road to pick someone up or unload? Or are cars the only vehicles that matter?
Cyclists are some of the most entitled people on the planet
