Peak 2020/chaos vibes tonight in the Dyer lab

We pride ourselves here in the Dyer lab on being able to monitor kinetics on a variety of timescales- as RBD likes to say, "from picoseconds to kiloseconds." One example of this is stopped-flow UV-Vis & fluorescence, where we can mix and then follow a reaction after just ~300 us

We have a LOT of different instruments in our lab, and we're always happy to share with our neighbors. Sam from the Davies lab (aka @NSFCCHF HQ) stopped by today to collect spectra of his gorgeous organic dyes- which he prepared in adorably tiny volumetric flasks!

We're a biophysics lab, so most of our samples are proteins. Our awesome tech Qun does expression, but we sometimes have special purification needs. Here, there's a column with blue NiNTA resin for removing His-tagged byproducts after an enzymatic cleavage.

Congrats, Han!
And special great thanks to my advisor @k_salaita and my committee @conticellolab @DyerLab_Emory and @TimLian5 for all the guidance and challenges during my PhD.

In taking the day to #ShutDownSTEM & reflect on racial injustice in academia, don't burden those suffering under an oppressive system with leading the change. Listening is a start, but learn & commit to real action rather than rely on marginalized colleagues to generate solutions
