Radiant Wins First-Ever DOE OK For Full-Power Microreactor As Nuclear Stocks Crash To Multi-Year Lows zerohedge.com/markets/radian…
A microreactor in every town, Armor All included
Couldn't have said it better myself
I've seen some replies concerned about the safety of the nuclear microreactor I posted about yesterday – the Radiant Kaleidos.
It's a 1 megawatt unit that fits in a shipping container. You can deploy it anywhere and it runs for five years before you send it back to the factory, which removes the spent fuel, refuels it, wipes the controls with Armor All, etc.
On safety, you can't just make it overheat and have something bad happen. It's a passively safe design:
1. Loss of coolant triggers shutdown.
2. The coolant is helium gas, which doesn't become radioactive. It's a beautifully inert gas.
3. The fuel can overheat well past 3,000 °F and still won't release its radiation. It's graphite blocks filled with ceramic-coated uranium particles (TRISO), designed to retain its fission products at extremely high temps.
It's a sweet setup, and the total radioactivity inventory in a 1 MWe core is orders of magnitude smaller than in a large commercial reactor. It's a microreactor.
A chicken in every pot, and a microreactor in every town. 🤠
First full power advanced reactor in the western hemisphere⚡️
Radiant has secured U.S. Department of Energy (@ENERGY) approval of its Documented Safety Analysis for Kaleidos, making it the only microreactor to be reviewed and approved by the DOE for full power operations.
The approval is not just for criticality, but for Radiant’s full power, full temperature testing at the Idaho National Laboratory. Radiant will test the complete reactor system using the same design it will manufacture at scale.
Next up in the path to commercialization: Readiness Review.

The countdown to full power has started!
Energy is prosperity, and the country needs more of it.
Built on a production line, and delivered to a customer site.
This is how energy American independence begins.
Huzzah to our newest partners: the @USNavy! 🚢 ⚓️
The @USNavy has selected Radiant to deploy our Kaleidos microreactor at Naval Weapons Station Crane, Indiana.
With this selection, Radiant is now the only nuclear microreactor company with partnerships across the Army, Navy and Air Force.
The Navy has more than 70 years of safe reactor operations. It wrote the playbook on reactor safety. Earning its confidence is powerful independent validation of Kaleidos.
This milestone moves us closer to our goal: reliable, resilient nuclear power wherever the mission demands. Through our work with all three branches, we’re building a clear path from military deployment to nuclear energy at scale for government and commercial customers.

Kaleidos wasn’t built as a concept. Our team has been ruthlessly focused on our customers. We designed and built around their needs. They want power to be easy. Deliver it to their site. Plug it in. Simple. Our first delivery is in 2028.

Kaleidos has left the building!
Our transportable microreactor is on its way to @INL's DOME facility, where it will begin full-scale testing.
Over the coming months, we'll validate commercial performance through a full-scale, full-power extended-duration testing program that progresses in 5 phases:
-Install and fuel Kaleidos
-Reach zero-power criticality
-Sustain 1MW thermal operation
-Full-temperature and full-power operation
-150-hours continuous operation
In 2020, our CEO @DougBernauer said we’d have a reactor at the DOME in 2026 - and we will!

Our totally portable, containerized reactor is about to ship out, I'm staying on top of things here!
2028 update: airlifted nuclear reactors
Complete with a fake town and Ice Cream Parlor, in 1944 the Allies secretly laid flexible pipelines in the English Channel under the code name Operation Pluto to keep fuel flowing after the Normandy landings.
These lines, based on adapted submarine cable technology and spooled out from special ships and giant floating reels called Conundrums, ran from England to ports like Cherbourg and later Boulogne.
Pumping stations on the English coast were hidden in plain sight, disguised as ordinary seaside bungalows, cottages, and even Brown’s Ice Cream Parlor so German reconnaissance would see nothing but a quiet holiday town.
By early 1945 the network was pumping nearly a million gallons of gasoline a day, and by VE Day it had carried well over 170 million gallons across the water, helping keep Allied tanks and trucks moving all the way into Germany.
Should pair with a @RadiantNuclear reactor for five years of uninterrupted ops!
Fuel secured for the nation's first commercial reactor. Giddy up!
The next generation of nuclear energy must deliver dependable power where continuity matters most.
That’s why we’re excited to announce that the @ENERGY has conditionally selected Radiant to receive a second allocation of high-assay low-enriched uranium, or HALEU. The allocation is intended to fuel Radiant’s microreactor for the Department of the Air Force’s Buckley Space Force Base in Aurora, Colorado, which will be delivered by 2028.
Radiant was the sole private-sector recipient selected in DOE’s third round of HALEU allocations, alongside NASA.

A lot of next-gen nuclear folks are playing checkers, and good for them.
@RadiantNuclear is playing chess.
And it’s the only game that matters — getting to proof of reliable, cost-effective, manufacturable *full power* reactors.
"Radiant is playing a different game in the DOME - a fueled, full-power test campaign of its actual commercial unit, targeting sustained meagwatt-class operations this summer - including 150 continuous hours at full power." @MichelleVolz
That's how we know we’ll be able to deliver for our customers by 2028. michellevolz1.substack.com/p…

Radiant is preparing for a full power test at INL and we are the only company doing that. We don’t stop at going critical, because a zero-power critical reactor is not a reactor that is able to produce electricity. We are de-risking and testing for a commercial reactor that is ready to work. That’s why we are focused on full power. That’s our difference.
You can see my sleeve!
Honored to host @SecAFOfficial last week.
I recently had the chance to meet with more of our industry partners in Southern California. On the ground, I found a cluster of companies modernizing to achieve the high ground in space, manufacture faster and cheaper, and bring the latest technology to the warfighter.
Together, we are working towards a common goal of equipping our #Airmen and #Guardians faster to protect our great nation.
