🇪🇸 The MiCA Crypto Alliance was at #EBC12 in Barcelona, where Juan Ignacio Ibañez, Executive Director of the Alliance, moderated a panel on stablecoins as financial infrastructure. Juan was joined by Simon Seiter of AllUnity, Benoît Courtois of Unicaja, John Hallahan of Fireblocks and Hugo Horton of Sokin. The panel traced the stablecoin value chain from issuance to distribution, discussed where stablecoins genuinely outperform other payment and settlement alternatives versus where the technology has yet to deliver, and looked specifically at the harder case of non-USD stablecoins. Aaron Evencio Sanchez Sanchez, our Director of Industry Engagement, spoke on a separate panel alongside BBVA, Deutsche Bank, STBL and Qivalis, examining whether stablecoin rails actually reduce the cost and delay of cross-border payments, or simply relocate the same FX friction on-chain. Across the two days, the wider conversation moved from proving blockchain's potential to identifying where it creates measurable value, whether in collateral mobilisation, institutional portfolio allocation, or always-on settlement.
