The bipartisan SEED Act is officially law! Early childhood educators can now claim the same federal tax deduction as K-12 teachers for classroom supplies they purchase out of pocket. A meaningful win for educators, children, and families. Learn more: ececonsortium.org/wp-content…

Great to see the House pass our SEED Act, delivering relief for early childhood educators who cover classroom costs out of their own pockets. As a former Superintendent of Denver Public Schools, I hope the President signs this bill immediately so those who teach our youngest Coloradans can get the support they deserve. bennet.senate.gov/2026/09/17…

I am pleased to announce that my bipartisan SEED Act is now law! Mainers are fortunate to have so many dedicated educators who go above and beyond to support their students. That can include spending their own money on books, supplies, and other classroom materials. I authored the law that established the original educator out-of-pocket expense deduction for K-12 teachers, and I am delighted that the SEED Act, which I coauthored with Senator Michael Bennet, was signed into law today, extending that same tax relief to early childhood educators. Our early childhood educators play a critical role in helping our youngest students develop a lifelong love of learning, and they deserve the same support available to other teachers. I am proud that we have now made that a reality.

Thanks @SenatorBennet for your work on getting the SEED Act over the finish line! For the first time, early childhood educators will be able to claim the same federal tax deduction for out-of-pocket classroom expenses currently available to K-12 teachers.
