This week, I signed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act into law, making lynching a federal hate crime for the first time in American history. As we work toward becoming a more perfect union, we must also come to terms with the sins of our past.

A tragic date in American history, and one we must never forget.
For the Japanese American community, today is a solemn day. It's the Day of Remembrance, the anniversary of FDR's Executive Order 9066, which ordered the internment of 120,000 persons of Japanese descent, two-thirds of whom were citizens of the United States.

#OTD in 1954, a unanimous Supreme Court made perhaps its most momentous decision in Brown v. Board of Education. The decision invalidated school segregation on the basis of race, rebuking the "inherently unequal" notion of "separate but equal." oyez.org/cases/1940-1955/347…

Did you know? Prior to 1878, California prohibited women from applying to the bar. However, Clara Shortridge Foltz successfully lobbied for the passage of the Woman Lawyer's Act, which allowed women to take the bar exam and become lawyers. #CLACivics #WomensHistoryMonth
