Simply closing your bedroom door before you go to sleep can help save your life in the event of a fire.
A close door can,
🔥 Slow the spread of flames.
🌡️ Reduce heat.
💨 Keep smoke and toxic gases out longer.
⏱️ Give you valuable extra time to escape.
🌡Make a 900 degree difference.
Close your door tight, before you say goodnight. 😴💤
Did you know?
Many of the everyday items in your home like furniture, rugs, artificial plants and decor are made with synthetic materials.
When these materials catch fire, they can burn faster and produce more toxic smoke, reducing the time you have to escape. In today's homes, a fire can become life-threatening in less than 3 minutes.
Protect your family by:
☑️Installing working smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas.
☑️Test your smoke alarms monthly.
☑️Practicing your home escape plan so everyone knows two ways out.
☑️Once outside stay outside.
☑️Call 9-1-1 from outside the home.
Most fatal home fires occur at night while people are sleeping. 💤
A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat, and fire and could make a life-saving difference in your home.
Close your door tight, before you say goodnight. 😴
There's nothing better than gathering around a campfire, but a few simple steps can help keep everyone safe. 🏕
Before you light a fire:
✔️ Check your local bylaws to make sure campfires are permitted.
✔️ Avoid burning on windy or dry days.
✔️ Keep your fire small and never leave it unattended.
✔️ Always keep water or a shovel nearby.
✔️ Check to ensure there are no fire bans in affect in the area
Before you leave, make sure ashes are cool. If it's too hot to touch, it's too hot to leave.
Enjoy your campfire safely and help protect our community.

🔋 Don't Throw Used Batteries in the Garbage! 🔋
Used batteries can still hold a charge. If they are damaged or come into contact with other batteries or metal objects, they can spark and cause fires in garbage trucks, recycling facilities, or landfills.
When disposing your batteries:
✅ Cover the terminals (positive and negative ends) with non-conductive electrical tape or
✅ Take them to a designated Household Hazardous Waste Depot or participating battery recycling location for safe disposal.
📍 East Gwillimbury Household Hazardous Waste & Recycling Depot
225 Garfield Wright Blvd., Sharon
🕒 Open:
• Monday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Sunday: 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
• Closed Tuesday & Wednesday
Small batteries can create big hazards—recycle them safely. ♻️🔥

A great meal can turn into an emergency in just a few seconds.
👨🍳 Stay in the kitchen while cooking. Distractions happen, use a timer or reminder to keep track of food on the stove and always have oven mitts nearby.
🍽️ Keep anything that can melt or burn, such as towels, potholders, paper products, emptied packaging and curtains, away from the stove.
🔥 If a grease fire starts, DO NOT use water. Instead, turn off the burner if it's safe to do so and carefully slide a proper fitting lid over the pan to smother the flames.
🚸Kids are curious! Keep a 3-foot (1 meter) kid-free zone around the stove and cooking area to help prevent burns and injuries.
📱In the event a fire is beyond your control, get outside and call 9-1-1.

If you think its hot outside, so do your pets. Here are a few gentle reminders about pet safety.
🚗Never leave pets in a car, temperatures can rise dangerously fast, even with the windows cracked.
💧Have fresh water available, keep clean, cool water on hands at all times. Pets can get dehydrated in the heat just like you can.
🌳Find shade and cool spaces, provide a cool, shaded spot or air conditioned space for your pet.
⏱️Limit outdoor activity, avoid the hottest parts of the day (10 am - 4 pm) Test the pavement with your hand if it's to hot for your hand its to hot for their paws. Walk in the mornings or evenings.

Water Safety Reminder: Bathing Suit Colours Matter🌊
What children wear in the water can affect how easily they are seen. Bright, neon colours stand out in pools and open water, while darker colours can blend in and become harder to spot.
While clothing colour can help improve visibility, it is not a substitute for active supervision. Drowning can happen quickly and often silently.
Always ensure children are within arm’s reach around water, swimming with a buddy, and wearing a properly fitted life jacket when boating or in open water.
Stay close. Stay alert. Stay safe.
