David Frum with the arithmetic: Trump promised a balanced budget on day 18 of his term. The deficit for the fiscal year that just ended is about $2 trillion, $160 billion more than Biden’s last full year. Total national debt is on track to reach $45 trillion by 2028.
At that rate, Trump’s four years will add about as much debt as the United States accumulated in its first 232 years.

Median home price: $400,000.
The math doesn’t work. You can’t afford the house.
This is the richest country in the world on a per capita basis, but the wealth is so top-heavy that middle and lower income people are skipping dental appointments, skipping doctor visits, and driving around with dented cars because they can’t risk the insurance premium going up.
It’s not getting better. It’s worsening.
And nobody in power seems to think that’s a problem worth solving.

This administration has turned the US into a complete joke, and it might have been funny if the damage done wasn't permanent.
BREAKING: US considers unfreezing Russian assets, with Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner planning a release of up to $100 billion in frozen Russian sovereign assets as an upfront incentive for a limited ceasefire on energy infrastructure, per the FT.
European officials rejected it outright, opposing giving up any control over the assets or returning any to Russia. "This was just simply not going to happen," an EU official said.
At the same time, the US threatened Ukraine this week with a total halt to intelligence sharing if it struck Russian energy sites again.

Washington is putting pressure on Kyiv and Europe.
According to the *Financial Times*, the Trump administration is threatening to suspend the mechanism for US arms shipments to Ukraine and halt intelligence sharing.
The goal: to get Kyiv to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries and other energy infrastructure deep within Russian territory.
