Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, received and held discussions with China’s Special Envoy for African Affairs, Liu Xianfa, at his office. The two sides exchanged views on peace and security in Africa.
Minister Gedion briefed the Special Envoy on the current peace and security situation in the Horn of Africa.
For his part, China’s Special Envoy for African Affairs, Liu Xianfa, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to playing a constructive role in promoting peace and security in Africa.

The 2026 Workshop for Think Tanks from the Horn of Africa Countries opened in Chengdu on Oct 29. Amb. Hu Changchun, China’s Special Envoy for Horn of Africa Affair attended the event with academics and media representatives from Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti, Uganda, Somalia and South Sudan. I held a fruitful bilateral meeting with President Vladimir Putin to discuss avenues for further strengthening the longstanding relations between Ethiopia and Russia. Our discussions addressed cooperation in nuclear energy, health, and trade, as well as bilateral and multilateral matters of mutual interest.
