I met with the defence ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom in Paris today for talks on support for Ukraine, European defence and the conflicts in the Middle East.
There is a new diplomatic push for peace in Ukraine, but Putin's actions tell a different story.
In recent days, Russia has again launched heavy attacks on Kyiv and sunk civilian ships in the Black Sea.
There is little hope for imminent peace in Ukraine. Our task is to help Ukraine withstand the attacks and increase the costs for Russia.
This month, the EU has adopted the largest sanctions listings against Russia since the war started, and more are in the works.

The Council has adopted a set of decisions mobilising funds for Ukraine under the European Peace Facility (EPF). This bring the EU’s overall EPF support for Ukraine to €10.8 billion.

Latest Eurostat data from July shows another significant drop: -39% since last year.

In July 2026, 34 145 non-EU citizens applied for international protection in EU countries for the first time, 8% fewer than in June 2026 (37 075). 🛂 📉

This month, we welcomed 20 U.S. undergraduate students to Brussels, the heart of the EU. 🇪🇺🇺🇸
All are international scholarship recipients who are spending their semester abroad in an EU Member State, but came to Brussels discover how the EU works up close! 🧵
During their trip, they met with @EU_Commission, @Europarl_EN, @eu_eeas & @US2EU to learn about the institutions, history of European integration, and EU-US cooperation in practice.
For many, it was a first encounter with the EU and a chance to strengthen people-to-people ties.
