Connection between climate and security.
@kajakallas hosted a dialogue on the security implications of the climate crisis with UK Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband and Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Minister @MusaliaMudavadi on the margins of UNGA.
One year ago, 142 countries endorsed the New York Declaration for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
Our collective responsibility is to demonstrate in practice that two states living side by side is the key to lasting peace for Palestine and Israel, and for the region as a whole.

Grain from Ukraine feeds people all over the world.
But Russia is blocking exports through the Black Sea and is deliberately causing global food insecurity.
The EU is calling for attacks to stop and grain to flow again.
Food must never be used as a weapon of war.

The EU comes to the @UN General Assembly with a clear message in support of peace, dialogue and multilateral cooperation.
The UN is a unique achievement of mankind that brings all nations of the world together to cooperate for peace and prosperity.
And the EU will continue supporting the UN in fully realizing its potential.
Because we are stronger when we act together.
On global conflicts, from Ukraine to Sudan to Gaza.
On the climate emergency endangering our planet.
On new technologies that must be put to the service of humanity.
All of these are global challenges that require global efforts.

On 21 September, HR/VP @kajakallas chaired the informal Foreign Affairs Council meeting in New York.
Russia’s war against Ukraine, crises in the Middle East and attacks on shipping affect our security, food supplies and economies.
EU Foreign Ministers discussed increasing pressure on Russia and strengthening maritime security. As Moscow takes greater risks, we must impose greater costs.
With partners from Australia, India, Japan and South Korea, ministers also focused on closer security cooperation, reducing economic dependencies and making the UN more effective.
From Europe to the Indo-Pacific, stronger partnerships are essential to protecting our shared security and prosperity.

The EU will always remain a supporter of multilateralism and of a rules-based international order with a reformed @UN at its heart.
We thanked Secretary-General Guterres for our close cooperation throughout his term, from Ukraine to the Middle East, and on climate.
As well as for driving the UN80 reforms forward.
The goal is clear: a UN fit for today’s world.

That turns global cooperation into solutions on the ground.
The EU and its Member States are the largest financial contributors to the UN system, year after year. Over 21% of the peacekeeping budget in 2024. More than 60% of the Peacebuilding Fund since it began. Europe shows up.
