Over the weekend, the inaugural Annual Global Summit East By Northwest (@exnwsummit) launched in Vancouver, BC, a #trailblazing collaboration between The Racial Equity Screen Office (@resoorg) and @GoldHouseCo. And co-organizing with them was RESO board member, EXNW director and #StandWithAsianAmerican's Brian Bang (@bpanger33). Racialized storytellers and creatives from across film, television, streaming, gaming and animation gathered to highlight, elevate and empower marginalized creatives who look like them to tell their stories, to inspire the creation of a more inclusive and equitable future through diverse, honest narratives, breaking away from the tired stereotypes and facades that dictate the way people limit us, giving voice to those on the margins. Founder and Board Chair of RESO Barbara Lee said, “In the past few years, we've seen a burst of global industry firsts where we have seen IBPOC stories move to the centre. Now is the time to come together, amplify, and reimagine our communities' role and impact on culture, and start building our own tables, instead of waiting to be invited to others’.” Now, let's get back to building our own tables. #representationmatters #ourstoriesmatters #ourvoicesmatter
