I am working my way through Kuyper’s 1898 Lectures on Calvinism to Princeton. He covers the rich impact Calvinism had on culture wherever it spread- 5 nations in 3 centuries. Trying to recall what I learned at MBU—- is the Baptist movement in the USA the rejection of Calvinism?

Not in the news…
🚨 The Islamic Republic cannot pay its own soldiers or the proxy fighters it relies on to keep its regional war machine alive. The financial crisis is now reaching the people carrying the guns. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has repeatedly said the regime is unable to pay significant numbers of its soldiers, describing the economic campaign as an effort to suffocate the system financially. The pressure extends beyond Iran. Hezbollah has already faced severe financial strain, including difficulties covering salaries and promised payments after years of dependence on Iranian financing. And money is directly tied to loyalty. During the 12-day and 40-day wars, reports circulated of Iranian personnel leaving bases, failing to report for duty and abandoning positions as the regime came under extraordinary military pressure. Now the U.S. strategy is explicitly targeting the money that sustains the IRGC, security forces and proxy network: oil revenue, shipping, banks, gold, cryptocurrency and sanctions-evasion networks. The Islamic Republic has always bought loyalty at home and armed loyalty abroad. If it can no longer reliably pay either, the regime is not merely facing an economic crisis. It is facing a crisis in the machinery that keeps it alive.

Great advice for those wanting to be better thinkers… speaking to myself.
How you become harder to bullshit, especially by yourself: Develop the ability to deeply understand & communicate both sides of an argument with the same level of conviction. Internally (with yourself) & externally (with others) It forces you to separate what you actually believe from what you simply want to be true. You make better decisions, communicate better, and become a lot more aware of your own biases You also quickly lose interest in discussing with people who aren’t even willing to entertain the idea that they might be wrong (hint: most people)

🚨 Iran’s largest commercial port is nearly empty, a devastating sign that the Islamic Republic’s economic arteries are being choked. Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas normally handles roughly 70–85% of Iran’s container traffic, with its roads and customs yards packed with trucks moving imports and exports across the country. Now footage shows vast stretches of empty roads and yards with barely any commercial movement. This is not just another struggling business or industry. It is Iran’s primary gateway for consumer goods, industrial inputs, food and other imports that feed directly into the domestic economy. The consequences of prolonged disruption are severe: fewer imports, worsening shortages, higher prices and even greater pressure on an economy already being squeezed from multiple directions. When the country’s largest commercial gateway starts looking like a ghost town, economic isolation is no longer an abstract statistic. It is becoming physically visible.
🚨 The Islamic Republic’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz is breaking as shipping traffic surges nearly 400% in just two weeks. According to data from the UK Maritime Trade Operations Center, nearly 200 ships crossed the strait last week, up from 150 the previous week and just 40 two weeks earlier. Vessels are increasingly moving through a U.S.-backed southern corridor, pushing traffic back to roughly 20% of pre-war levels. The trend matters more than the current volume. Every ship that crosses safely weakens the regime’s ability to weaponize Hormuz and hold global energy flows hostage. The Islamic Republic built its strategy around controlling the chokepoint. That leverage is now being steadily dismantled.

Smart…
And there you have it. POTUS essentially confirms my analysis that he is engaged in a modern version of siege warfare, and will starve Iran out economically. Trump is perfectly content sitting in his current position. With control of the strait, and a blockade on any and all imports/exports in and out of Iran, Trump has Iran and their trade partners by the balls. If they want the economic squeeze to stop, they must capitulate to Trump’s demands. Trump does not have to send boots on the ground. He can just hold his dominant position, and Iran will implode. They can either submit, or perish. Trump is proving that he is not like the corrupt Presidents of the past, and that there are more effective and precise ways to defeat our enemies.

The tattoo thing is completely out of control. A majority of women between the ages of 18 and 49 now have tattoos. I have tattoos and I'm here to tell you it isn't worth it. I don't hate my tattoos or necessarily regret them. I feel fine about them. But feeling fine about your tattoos 18 years later is basically the best case scenario. That's the tattoo ceiling. At best it will be something you don't necessarily hate in a couple of decades. The floor is much, much lower. There is basically no scenario where you'll wake up every day for the next six decades thanking God that you have your tattoos. You'll either be totally humiliated by them down the line (which a lot of people are), or at best you'll be kind of ambivalent. Not a wise investment. Upside isn't nearly high enough to justify a permanent decision.

I understand why Baptist pastors can't touch this with a 10-foot pole. A theological change like this will cost them friendships, respect from older pastors, and possibly their church. For this reason, most just avoid it. I don't blame them.
I wish Baptist pastors from my generation would at least TRY to understand postmillenial theology. It takes a lot of work to re-wire previous assumptions, but the Biblical and historic evidence is overwhelming.

God’s providence is undeniable at Yorktown… a storm allowed Washington to quickly build defensive berms. When the battle started, a fog appeared which masked American movements. When Cornwallis tried to escape, another storm prevented him from crossing the James River
