Nova’s Next Chapter? Oh do I have quite the update for you all. Surprised me to wake up to this morning. They’re trying to prepare Nova to be discharged Sunday evening, she Could go home with me, IF she can pass all her tests. I had to change Halloween plans and my kids will have to come to this town to trick or treat. I have to do 2 nights for education so that’s how I have to do it. An extra trip back and forth for them but it’s the best solution I had make it work for everyone. I’m here doing education with her now and have been practicing her feeds with the Gtube. She must do a 24 hour back sleep test, because they’ve had her sleeping at an angle for this whole time. Then she has to pass her car seat test. Her first one at 2pm was a fail. She started vomiting the second they put her in there and so they had to wait to start it again and will be trying again after current feeding is complete. She feeds every 3 hours and the feeding goes for 1hr 30 mins. When will her and I ever sleep? 👀 Nova has to see the surgeon for follow up in two weeks which we have to travel even further for, to the surgeons office instead of the hospital. And Monday we start home health, if she comes home with me Sunday night that is. After her follow up with the surgeon, we may be going to stay with my mom for a while. She could help me with the medical stuff but if I am comfortable by then she could help with the other 2 kids so I’m not having them all myself while trying to make this transition. The speech therapist wants nova to go see the cleft palate team & work with them sooner than 11 months for the cleft palate surgery, she thinks nova would benefit from a piece that goes in her mouth and is essentially a prosthetic palate to help her be able to eat by mouth. The cleft palate team is about 4 hours longer of a drive away than we have had to do. That is why I’m thinking we should go to my mom’s for a while and maybe even transfer Nova’s home health to another company/location after a few weeks of being home. Not sure how to navigate all of this because she needs to be two places at once as do I, and as does my spouse! But that way my kids aren’t stuck in the car constantly traveling to each individual appointment. Nova has different care teams she will have to see, for differing issues. So I feel like I’m in way over my head. But I’m excited to have her home for the first time ever. I have been feeling very down on myself as a mother. Even when I’m here with Nova, All I can think about is how my daughter cried and begged me not to leave last night. When I’m with them at home I feel like I’m failing Nova. It’ll make all the difference having us all together even if we are in the car constantly going to specialists/appointments. The traveling is not done, so I’m going to continue my fundraiser for now.
