"Light shineth in darkness, though darkness comprehendeth it not. A truthful, fruitful idea cannot be exterminated. Sooner or later the truth will burn through the veils by which it is hidden, and will begin to light the whole world. Such is the idea of Henry George"

Good. Collecting resources rents and tackling corruption should be the priority. Botswana has achieved a higher GDP per capita than China by doing this, Angola could too.

Or you are forgetting that producers and retailers will pass on Yang's sales taxes to consumers in higher prices, and that many people will lose their jobs because of the higher taxes, and that landlords who rent to the poor will demand more.
If you can look at these two graphs, understand them, and still believe Yang's UBI is anything but hugely progressive, it's possible there's something you care more about than circulating money from those with the most to those with the least.

Definitely time for a Land Value Tax and basic income! I lay out the case here: theguardian.com/global-develβ¦
Don't be distracted by "wealth" & "capital". Aristocrats w/ 'noble title' knew power rested with land title⦠and kept it

Rent produced by society and nature accounts for over half the UK Gross Income. Current deadweight taxes - the ones which repress jobs and trade by at least Β£500bn a year [Harrison] - collect about one third. Collecting socially produced wealth is immune to deadweight losses.
We don't want to neglect all this progress amidst the poverty. Henry George was very much an optimist and we follow his example.

For the first time ever, a drone delivered a human organ for transplant.
The doctor who performed the kidney transplant surgery explains to @MartinSavidge why itβs such a big deal.
Is Yang is making a common mistake?
Follow Henry George's lead with this thought experiment: would the cost of "housing" become any cheaper if houses could be built instantly at zero cost?
The answer is not obvious. There is even good reason to think that rent cost would rise.
Just visited a prototype for affordable housing units made out of shipping containers that cost about $35,000 each. Very comfortable.

Interesting. Yes, changing from communism to landlordism can be a little like a frontier. That's why eastern Europe has high home ownership rates.
#SunYatsen followed Jay's suggestion when studying in USA & Hong Kong (which raised 1/3 of revenue from land rent).
As founder of Taiwan, he declared, "Henry George will be the basis of our program, the only infinitely just, reasonable, & equitable means of supporting government"
China's version of 'land value capture' is the same one that the United States used to leap-frog the rest of the world. Today, 50% of provincial and local public revenues are raised by selling off public land. But that cannot last forever.

An EU or a UK collecting AGR/LVT, instead of taxing wages and trade, would not experience the forced migration of people and wealth from the periphery to the economic centre.
Sydney & London Properties is suing because the government's railway company underpaid using eminent domain.
So @Dave__Wetzel replies:
Not just one person is short-changed. Taxpayers funding the train reap no benefit from the massive increase in land values around the stations.
