East Catholic Boys Golf Coach Tom Malin recently notched his 1,000th combined career win (golf and soccer) and if weren't for the thoughtfulness of EC All-State golfer Charlie Hathaway, the feat may have gone unrecognized that day at the course. Hathaway quickly called the school office to double check on the milestone win. A kind gesture that E.O. Smith Coach Chuck Leavens (a highly successful coach himself) was impressed by and shared with CIAC. Leavens calls it, "Without a doubt the best loss of his career." Malin, who was the AD at East Catholic from 1980 until his retirement in 2016, won 2 state championships as a soccer coach and has 12 state titles (and counting) as East's longtime boys golf coach. He was also a state champion basketball player in 1965 as part of East Catholic's first graduating class. #Legend @EastCatholicAD @EastCatholicHS #ctgolf
