A short NYSC story 🧵
I almost got sent home on Day 1 of camp.
I’d travelled 9 hours with one bag and one dream. At the registration gate, the officer looked at me and said: “Where is your call-up letter?”
Question: who was the first person you made friends with in camp? 👇
Reply, tag them, and tell us how you met.

Tobi is now my best friend. Chinedu is now my roommate’s boyfriend.
All of it started because of one wrong bag at one gate.
Camp doesn’t just give you a certificate. It gives you your people. 🇳🇬
Three days later, a stranger knocked on our hostel door holding a bag.
My bag. With my call-up letter inside. And a note:
“Sorry for the mix-up. I ate your biscuits. I’ll pay you back at the mammy market. — Chinedu”
😭😭
When he finally called my name, he slid a form across the desk.
“You’re cleared. Welcome to camp.”
I nearly cried.
Outside, the girl was waiting for me with a bottle of water. Her name was Tobi.
“Platoon 7,” she said. “Me too. Come, I’ll show you the hostel.”
Then a girl behind me in the queue tapped my shoulder.
“Don’t panic. Do you remember your call-up number?”
I did. She said, “Tell him. They can check.”
The officer made one phone call, then pointed to a bench: “Wait there.”
I waited. Two hours. No lunch.
I had printed it. I was SURE.
But when I opened my bag, I froze.
Wrong bag. No call-up letter. No green card.
Inside: two sausage rolls, a torch, and a wedding invitation that was not mine.
The officer folded his arms. 😳
Nobody tells you that university isn’t just about passing exams. It’s about finding information, finding opportunities, finding people (even finding customers if you run a business in school), finding your way. I think students deserve better. What do you think?
