When I am asked, Is there anything people can do at home to help bees, whether they have a garden, patio, window box, or local green space? Absolutely. One of the simplest and most meaningful things we can do is grow flowers. Over the past century, England has lost around 97% of its wildflower meadows. These once-vibrant landscapes provided food and shelter for countless pollinators, and their disappearance has had a profound impact on bee populations across the country. The good news is that even the smallest space can make a difference. Whether you have a large garden, a few pots on a patio, a window box, or access to a community green space, planting bee-friendly flowers creates valuable feeding stations for pollinators. Individually, these may seem like small acts, but together they form a network of habitats that help bees thrive. By choosing native wildflowers, you’re not only bringing beauty and colour into your surroundings, you’re helping to restore a tiny piece of the landscape that bees have lost.

The UK has dug up many of its orchards and now imports 70% of its apples, often from across the world. Planting apple trees in our gardens and communities - and protecting those we have - can cut food miles, soak up CO2, help wildlife, and can help save traditional varieties🍎

Here we go again. Will our goverment finally do the right thing by our environment, or will it continue to bow to industrial lobbyists and corporate greed? Pls RT & use the link below to email our environment minister.
For the 4th year in a row, @DefraGovUK has been asked to allow use of a banned pesticide. 1 tsp of this poison is enough to kill 1.25m bees. 🐝 Banned chemicals have no place in a #WilderFuture. ☠ Ask the Farming Minister to say #NoToNeonics 👉 wtru.st/yes-to-healthy-bees

A single 400-year-old ancient oak produces 234,000 litres of oxygen a year while soaking up carbon dioxide, and can support more than 2,000 species of bird, insect, fungus, and lichen. Nature is amazing - we need more of it, not less. RT if you agree 🌳

More checks on @EdibleYork’s patchwork orchard as we head towards harvest season. Removing bad fruit, picking up windfalls, checking for damage… This Katy is on Thorn Nook, not a bad crop but signs of bitter pit 😕

A bumblebee can only fly for about 40 minutes between feeding. But we've lost 97% of our wiłdflower meadows. So each nectar-rich flower you plant in a windowbox or in your garden or community green spaces could be the pit stop that saves a bee 🐝
