The coach pointed to the shortage of left-footed defenders as one of the key reasons behind Toto’s recall, highlighting the youngster’s qualities and potential to strengthen Uganda’s defensive options. “If you consider (Jordan) Obita our central defender, we need other options for left-footed defenders and it’s not easy to find them. He (Toto) has a good left foot and needs an opportunity as we build the team ahead of AFCON,” Put said during the squad unveiling at FUFA House in Mengo. “I have followed him for a long time, which is why we called him in for the friendly games against DRC to see what he can offer the team. He is a very positive player and equally disciplined,” he added. #KawowoUpdates | @EdwinKyleKule kawowo.com/2026/10/28/paul-p…

However, I reached out to him, appreciating that he is a great personality. He is a great person not only on the pitch but also off the pitch,” Put said during the squad unveiling at FUFA House in Mengo. “But for such a recognised player, Khalid needs an organised send-off. So we have named him on the team so that he can have time with his friends on the team but also greet the fans. He appreciated the plan, and I think he deserves it, having served the nation to that magnitude,” he added. #KawowoUpdates | @EdwinKyleKule kawowo.com/2026/10/28/why-pa…

Urunani concluded their group D campaign with an 81-79 victory over Namuwongo Blazers on Sunday at Hoima City Arena, finishing with a strong performance against the Ugandan side. “It’s a good feeling. We came here from the first game and faced tough games against Patriots and Namuwongo. The games were very physical, but our boys matched the physicality and put up a great show,” he said. Despite the positive showing in Hoima, Hakizimana acknowledged that his team still has areas to improve before the next stage of the competition. “The local players did a great job, but I am sure we shall be ready going into the Elite 16 tournament,” he said. #KawowoUpdates | @EdwinKyleKule kawowo.com/2026/10/26/urunan…

The Blazers secured qualification for the Elite 16 after winning three of their four games at the East Division qualifiers held at Hoima City Arena, although their 81-79 defeat to Burundi’s Urunani on Sunday denied them top spot in the group. “I would assess the tournament as a success. We had two goals. One was to finish on top of the group and the other was to qualify. I am happy to say that we achieved one of those by qualifying for the Elite 16,” he said. #KawowoUpdates | @EdwinKyleKule kawowo.com/2026/10/26/nyeko-…
