It's taken me a while to come back and write this post. I've tried to put my thoughts into words two or three times now, and I still don't think I can fully express just how much BioWare's older games, like Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect, meant to me growing up. Those games shaped who I am. They made me the writer I am today, the roleplayer I am today, and influenced so much of my life in ways I can't even begin to explain. I met some of my best friends through fucking Dragon Age roleplay??? And I just... Damn, this sucks. This fucking sucks. I think what hurts the most is knowing how we got here. EA was already a money-hungry corporation to begin with, and now, with the Saudi-backed acquisition, I can't imagine things getting any better. I'm not going to get into the politics of that, That's not what this post is about, and I'm not interested in turning it into that conversation. But I do want to talk about what happens when something that meant so much to so many people gets swallowed up by corporate greed. Because that's what this feels like. It's genuinely heartbreaking. And yes, I know, they haven't made a good game in YEARS but we hoped, we ALL hoped they would claw their way back up from the ashes someday. Sadly though, that day will never come. Atrast nal tunsha, Grey Wardens. 🕯️ May you always find your way in the dark...
