If the death penalty is wrong, it's wrong, let alone when it's given for protesting or opposing a regime. If you scroll by, what is your excuse for doing so, when Iranians try to get the world to notice this?
🔥 Tomorrow is Tuesday—a day of solidarity with prisoners on hunger strike in Iran’s #NoToExecutionTuesdays campaign. We call on human rights defenders, civil society activists and freedom-loving people worldwide to join this growing chain of solidarity. Stand with prisoners who are resisting executions and state killing from behind prison walls. Every voice matters. Every act of solidarity can help amplify their call. Let their voices never be silenced behind prison walls. Let every Tuesday become a global day of action for life! ✊ Speak out, spread the word and unite to demand an immediate halt to executions in Iran. #NoToExecutionTuesdays #StopExecutionsInIran #EndImpunity4Mullahs

Absolutely indefensible. Utterly inexcusable. In a sickening roll back of basic wildlife protections, a cruel new rule by the Trump regime officially grants trophy hunters the legal authority to bait and execute black and brown bears across millions of acres of Alaska’s national preserves. This isn't hunting — it is a point-blank slaughter. By allowing hunters to lure these magnificent animals with piles of high-calorie human foods like bacon grease, doughnuts, and meat scraps, the Trump regime has turned our protected public lands into personal execution chambers for wealthy hobbyists. This pathetic, lazy practice creates an extreme safety hazard by deliberately conditioning wild bears to associate humans with food, spiking the risk of aggressive encounters and putting park visitors in direct danger. Shamefully overturning a common-sense 2024 Biden administration ban, this rule change is nothing more than a corrupt political gift to cowardly right-wing trophy hunters at the direct expense of American wildlife and public safety. Our national preserves belong to the public, not to the special interests of people who need a pile of junk food just to kill a bear at close range.

To me, cultural relativism works only as thin layer of topsoil. Digging down I can't accept all cultural values are equal in their own context. If I want equality of opportunity/education for women in my country I want them for women in every country and I won't shut up about it.
🚨This is Afghanistan if the world remains silent. A dark place where women lose all basic human rights the right to education, freedom, even control over childbirth. Forced marriage. The sale of girls at a young age. and women will be just as sexual slavery. and men are allowed to have multiple wives. This is a warning to the world: If this situation becomes normalized in Afghanistan, it can reach your country tomorrow. Silence does not stop oppression it spreads it.💔

'Our perception'? You might have had that perception Justin, but Gulliver's Travels has never been 'a children's classic' ffs. It's always been a vicious political satire. #r4today

Perhaps the Platitude pour La Jour Bishop thinking about the death penalty on @bbcr4today could give some thought to the ongoing executions of protestors in Iran? No-one else does. I despair at the lack of engagement on this horrific issue. #r4today

I am in direct contact with my students and so many Afghan women, and the stories I hear from them are heartbreaking. Please, I beg you, do not let the voices of Afghan women be silenced. Please speak up for them louder and more boldly than ever before. Keep telling their stories. Keep the world listening. Do not let the world forget them. For more than five years, Afghan women and girls have been systematically denied their fundamental rights, including access to education, and pushed out of public life. Yet their voices, dreams, and hopes have not disappeared. Afghan women are not invisible. Their suffering must not become normal. Their silence must never be mistaken for consent. Please help make the world hear them. They deserve freedom, education, dignity, and a future. @jk_rowling, please stand with Afghan women. Please help amplify their voices. The world must not look away. 💔

Like before the referendum, a whole discussion on free movement without once discussing the fact that it's reciprocal, that #Brexit stripped British passport holders of freedom on their own continent, that lack of it affects a whole slew of British NEETS horribly ffs. #r4today

So utterly depressing, hedgehogs are hurtling towards extinction on OUR watch, and only a few wildlife lovers care... paved gardens, plastic 'lawns', chopped down trees & hedges.. having a lifeless, no effort to manage, outdoor space is all that matters to the lazy & selfish..😒
Britain had about 30 million hedgehogs in the 1950s; we've got under 875,000 today. The population has dropped by about 97%. Shocking.

SHE DIED WAITING Heather Earley, mother of three, has died waiting for her money. @PostOffice kept her waiting so long she ran out of time. Impressive logistics. Lawyer @SimonMGoldberg (well worth to give him a follow) shared the sad news today. Heather Earley was one of 555 postmasters who took the Post Office to the High Court and won, and she died before getting her redress, the money owed to put her life back together. He points to a @BBCNews article from 2024 on victims who died before getting redress. Winning in court and never seeing the money is a rare talent. Heather Earley was a mother of three who ran a local shop with a Post Office counter in Mossley, Newtownabbey, in Northern Ireland. In December 2013 the Horizon computer system said she was £10,000 short. A computer said so, and in the Post Office computers are never wrong.. She says one customer kept using a flaw in the system. Every time that customer withdrew £100, the system added £100 to the balance instead of taking it off. I wish my bank worked like that. Heather Earley called the police, and the customer was prosecuted and convicted. That put the blame on the customer, and the Post Office still demanded the £10,000 from her, took money from her wages and refused to give it back even after the conviction. Crime solved, victim billed ... She borrowed from family and maxed out three credit cards just to buy stock for the shop. She cashed in £50,000 of her pension to save the house and clear her debts. Her village lost its post office and its shop, a truly generous service to the community. In 2019 the Post Office settled the group case for £57.75M. Around £46M went on legal and funding costs, which left roughly £20,000 for each of the 555 people. The judge, Mr Justice Peter Fraser, had said the Post Office at times acted as though it answered only to itself, and it seems to have taken that as a challenge. Reports say at least 350 Horizon victims have died before their final payouts, so at this pace the scheme will finish the moment nobody is left to be paid. Heather Earley wanted justice and enough money to rebuild what was left of her life. Simon Goldberg says the lawyers and other parties who held up and nickel and dimed her redress should feel nothing but shame, though shame does not appear to be billable. Stop fighting these people and pay them before it is too late. Heather Earley never got her cheque. RIP Heather

The most important thing today is that Starlink and Starshield operations have been restored to the speeds we had before the restrictions. The speeds are now where they need to be. The restoration began overnight, and by this morning, speeds were already sufficient. This matters: for our frontline logistics, for defending Ukraine against jet-powered “shaheds.” I thank all Americans and all our partners who took this seriously and truly helped – members of Congress, senators, all the media, the State Department, and the President. Protecting lives matters.

Go for a walk on almost any farm in Britain and ask yourself where a hedgehog might find food, water or shelter there. The rough edges, pockets of scrub, areas of unkempt long grass, piles of dead wood, marshy wet areas and ponds, all tidied away. There’s nowhere left for them.
Britain had about 30 million hedgehogs in the 1950s; we've got under 875,000 today. The population has dropped by about 97%. Shocking.

Why I worry. Putin underestimated Ukraine's strength and significance. So did the West. It had to scramble support for stalemate. Nukes meant neither side could escalate to win. Drones and tech changed everything. Trump changed everything else. European war no longer unthinkable.

US-Russia-Ukraine talks not sufficient. Europe is being underestimated now. It won't surrender its Eastern flank to Russia. If Ukraine has to settle for a Russia win under pressure from the USA, it's just a matter of time; Europe will have to fight for its life. It could lose.
