Great news for taxpayers and transparency. Thank you @DonHuffines! #txlege #GOC
NEW: Texas Comptroller announces plans to review Austin, Barbers Hill, El Paso and Prosper ISDs "to ensure taxpayer funds are being spent responsibly." Gov. Abbott previously directed office to investigate spending of up to four districts. Review will be done by Dec. 31.

Well would you look at that. 👀 Sunlight is the best disinfectant. The House Government Oversight Committee is so bright, you need shades. 🕶️ #txlege
The Big NGO contract on the next Austin city council agenda was quietly dropped from the agenda yesterday, no explanation given.... Is the #txlege house oversight hearing having some impact?

Travis County DA Jose Garza didn’t show up to defend his own failed policies - the ones that let repeat offenders walk free while victims & their families are left to fend for themselves. Austin is more dangerous because of him. And the #txlege is ready to do something about it.
TX Rep @EllenTroxclair to the staffer sent by Travis DA Garza at the House Oversight Committee, addressing multiple failures to prosecute that led to later murder victims: “How many people have to die in this city for DA Garza to do his job and prosecute criminals and give defendants and victims their day in court and their justice…” @Burrows4TX @GregAbbott_TX @DanPatrick @cvasut @realmitchlittle @A4PublicSafety @DougDeason

How many people have to die in #Austin for DA Garza to care? How many women have to be attacked? How many victims have to live in fear? The safety of your neighborhood depends on the DA bringing criminals to justice. If they won’t do their job, #Texas will. #txlege
.@EllenTroxclair absolutely cooks @JosePGarza's office. Garza was too chicken to show up himself so he sent one of his lackeys. #txlege

This is why I’m calling for a new State Prosecutor position to crack down on crime the locals refuse to prosecute.

Today at the Texas House Governmental Oversight hearing: Barbers Hill ISD Superintendent Greg Poole (who also serves as Executive Director of the district’s Education Foundation that holds ~$200 million) was asked if any family member works for the investment firm managing that money. He said no. Then lawmakers pointed out his daughter worked at Commerce Street Holdings. When pressed further: “You can ask it three different ways, ma’am. I don’t remember.” Watch.

Great piece by @EllenTroxclair on how the App Store Accountability Act addresses major gaps in kids' online safety.

It’s always the right time to do the right thing! #765kV transmission lines cost too much to deliver too little - $100B (nearly $10,000 per household) to transmit *no new generation.* Pausing until next session will deliver a better plan for #Texas’ long term needs. #txlege
Grateful to be joined by 30 Texas House members in urging the @PUCTX to deny the CCN applications for 765kV lines and allow #txlege to take up necessary reforms in next session.

Replying to @ERCOT_ISO
@ERCOT_ISO ignored the TORA study and instead went all in on the S&P study commissioned by industry. In effect, they googled the study that agreed with their preconceived goals. That’s not science. That’s a rigged game. Fake scientists doing the bidding of big business on the backs of rural Texans. Hey @TexansForRII, ERCOT told me personally that data center load factors were central to their recommendations.
.@TPPF mischaracterizes the demand drivers for 765kV. Permian oil and gas activity is the primary driver of the Permian Basin Reliability Plan, not data centers or renewables export. The Permian Basin has averaged 11% annual peak demand growth for a decade. Read our full paper: zurl.co/Nvm19

Love this! Thank you @ChickfilA! #txlege
Chick-fil-A is offering free ice cream to families who agree to put their phones away during their meal, as part of an effort to encourage more face-to-face time and less screen use at the table.

This promotion is only offered at select Chick-fil-A locations by individual operators, not a company-wide program. It originated in 2016 from a Georgia operator and has been revived locally at various times. facebook.com/61566209070124… abcnews.com/Lifestyle/chic…

Texas teachers show up every day for our students, often going above and beyond without enough recognition. Representative @EllenTroxclair helped deliver real teacher pay raises and meaningful classroom reforms that restore order, empower parents, and let teachers focus on teaching. That’s leadership that strengthens our schools, respects educators, and invests in the future of Texas. #txlege

Through voter-approved property tax reforms, Rep. @EllenTroxclair delivered $51 billion in property tax relief—raising the homestead exemption, cutting taxes for families and seniors, and protecting Texans from being taxed out of their homes. These reforms delivered real savings, kept seniors in their homes, and held taxing entities accountable. You can count on Rep. Troxclair to always put homeowners first and keep fighting for real, lasting property tax relief for Texans. #txlege

Strong op-ed by Reps. @FairlyForTexas and @EllenTroxclair on why their legislation to ban cell phones during the school day was a priority last session—and why it’s already working. Since becoming law, educators and parents are seeing Texas students who are more engaged, less anxious, achieving stronger test scores, and better shielded from bullying and constant screen time. The handful of ISDs who are fighting this necessary change should talk to the parents and educators where this has been implemented and educate themselves about how this is working.

.@FairlyForTexas, @EllenTroxclair: "Personal communication devices must be put away during the entire school day while on school property. Phone-free schools bring a wide range of benefits, and when the law isn’t followed, students miss out on the full advantages of a distraction-free learning environment. It’s time for all schools to follow the rules and ban smart devices all day long."
