Before he endorsed 'Green River Rising' Ellroy requested a meeting with the author Tim Willocks. They were two like-minded writers - uncompromising, intense and complicated dedicated to their artistic vision.

The fictional Joan, from my novel NAMASTE MART CONFIDENTIAL, published by @RunAmokCrime, was inspired Jenette Goldstein. I used to work with her son, who told me he saw a YouTube mashup when he was really young of all the times his mom got killed in movies and thought this one was her best death scene
Jenette Goldstein’s gymnastics background played a major role in making this unforgettable stunt look effortless. Her natural athleticism brought fluidity and precision to the scene, but pulling it off required careful preparation, flawless timing, and coordination from the stunt crew. During the explosive diving-board sequence, the crew reportedly used a pressure-sensitive pad to trigger the blast the instant her feet left the board. This perfectly timed practical effect created the illusion of a seamless explosion, making the moment even more thrilling on screen. The scene highlights how Hollywood combines real athletic ability with clever filmmaking techniques. What appears to be a simple stunt often requires extensive planning and teamwork behind the scenes. Sometimes, the most impressive movie moments aren’t just about massive explosions, but the incredible precision and skill that make them look effortless.

'Jealousy' and 'Drinkers' by Edvard Munch. I love Munch's vibrant face colours. Green presumably for naivety, red for lust and drunkenness?

Hemingway hated F. Scott Fitzgerald's essay 'The Crack-Up'. He felt all of the angst on display should have been channelled into a novel. Nevertheless, more than eighty years since publication 'The Crack-Up' is now regarded as one of the finest examples of confessional writing
