Congrats to the @scratchmadeteam for another successful @CapitalCamp and @MainStSummit.
And mostly thanks to @Clayton_Dorge for bringing @Bleadorn and @AdamKimble818 back once again. 🤩

"Get the scent in your nostrils and keep your nose to the ground, and don't worry too much about the end of the chase. The fun of the thing's in the run and not in the finish."
It's tempting to wish away the hard, less-romantic parts of building a business. But those stretches are the actual experience of building something meaningful.
Re-reading Letters From a Self-Made Merchant To His Son, a collection of fictional letters packed with timely one-liners and that quote that stuck out.
Gotta go through it to learn.

75 days out from @MainStSummit (and @CapitalCamp happening at the same time!).
I'm excited for many reasons, but especially for the unexpected conversations that happen naturally, likely in The Atrium, walking between Sessions, or on a morning run.
Perfect example: I've been following Jeff at @ugmonk for over 10 years. I love his design approach and obsession with quality and simplicity.
Last year, @chriswandrew from de la bou wines and I were chatting in The Atrium when he casually mentioned growing up with Jeff.
He made a quick connection and now Jeff's joining us this year to discuss manufacturing with design integrity and scaling with intentional craftsmanship.
One off-hand comment turned into a learning opportunity for all of us!
And oh yes...we're bringing Ugmonk's Analog system to The General Store, plus setting aside some exclusive pieces as speaker gifts.

There are those who seek knowledge in order to serve; that is Love."

After listening to this Episode of @InvestLikeBest, @Clayton_Dorge and I loved the story of how Lilia was created and what Sean Feeney did to make it come to life.
So when our friends said FLY TO NYC and join us for dinner at Lilia?
We said YES.
👏
For 13 years, Sean Feeney traded high-yield bonds for a living.
He now operates 2 of the most sought-after restaurants in NYC.
Each night, Lilia and Misi have 2,500-5,000 people on their waitlists.
One of his first decisions proved the most important.
Rather than pay his rent like everyone else - fixed per square foot - he found a landlord that let him pay a percentage of sales.
8% to be precise.
"That was the number everyone said. Don’t pay more than 8% of sales on rent.”
Sean took it literally and it proved crucial. He turned a common transaction into an uncommon partnership.
In year one, he thought Lilia might do $3.5 million in sales. They doubled that and he ended up paying a lot of rent.
Sounds bad.
But it proved Lilia and its landlord were aligned. If one does well, so will the other. The landlord was quick to fix issues, make the building look nice, and keep the sidewalk clean.
And come COVID, when Lilia had no sales, Sean owed no rent.
It's one short story in a long series of how Sean and his co-founder Missy are challenging the prevailing wisdom in the restaurant world.
You can hear all his wisdom in today's episode.
