All of us at Marvel Studios are deeply saddened by the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart. Sir Patrick brought Professor Charles Xavier to life with extraordinary grace, intelligence, and humanity, defining the character for generations of fans, from "X-Men" to "Logan" to "Avengers: Doomsday." He was a singular talent, a generous collaborator, and a true gentleman. When Nigeria was prepared to lead an ECOWAS intervention force in Niger following the coup, it was Nigerians themselves who opposed the move. In the north the opposition was driven by ethnic sentiments. In the south we had "imperialist" conspiracy theories. We even had one conspiracy nut job steal and release to the public classified documents relating to Nigeria's strike plans. The security implications of allowing a military regime become entrenched on Nigeria's doorstep was overshadowed by emotion, political sentiment, and conspiracy narratives.
Today, our border with the Niger Republic is the most dangerous and porous entry point for terrorists and bandits coming from the Sahel.
That said, there is a $13 billion Trans Saharan Gas Pipeline Project that connects Nigeria, Algeria, and Niger. Over 2,400 kilometres of the pipeline have already been completed across Nigeria and Algeria. The remaining 1,600 kilometre stretch will pass through Niger.
An unstable Niger jeopardizes the entire project, so Algeria's military involvement is a strategic and pragmatic decision.

This is good news for Nigeria because producing more military equipment locally means more jobs for Nigerians, new opportunities for our engineers and manufacturers, and less money spent importing weapons and equipment. It also strengthens our ability to protect lives and secure our communities. With the right investment, Nigeria can move from depending on other countries for defence equipment to producing and exporting our own. That is how defence cooperation can translate into jobs, economic growth and greater national security.
Romaniaโs defence industry plans to establish a military equipment manufacturing facility in Nigeria, following discussions with Nigeriaโs Minister of Defence and military leadership at AFRIDEX 2026. The proposed investment is expected to deepen bilateral defence cooperation, strengthen local manufacturing and improve access to military equipment.
The exhibition also highlights Nigeriaโs growing indigenous defence production, with DICON D7G expanding its output of arms, ammunition and other military equipment. Alongside advances in maritime surveillance technology, these initiatives aim to strengthen national security, reduce reliance on imported defence equipment and create opportunities to supply wider African markets.

๐จ Nigeriaโs government just turned down a mountain of money.
At yesterdayโs Treasury Bills auction (Oct 28), investors offered โฆ1.84 trillion just for the 1-year bills. Total demand was about โฆ1.91 trillion.
But the Debt Management Office (via the CBN) only took โฆ71.16 billion.
And the interest rate on those 1-year bills actually dropped to 15.80%.
