🔴 Most recent response by the Royal Belgian Football association to the World Cup controversy regarding Balogun and the red card. “Following its previous statement, the RBFA wishes to publicly explain the course of events over the past few hours. After learning through the press of FIFA's decision to lift the automatic suspension of player Balogun, the RBFA sent a letter to FIFA requesting a copy of it as well as explanations regarding the procedure followed, while setting out its position in light of the applicable regulations. As its sole response, FIFA informed the RBFA that it considered this letter to be an appeal, that a judge had been appointed, and that the RBFA had only a few hours to finalize this appeal. No information was provided by FIFA. For an appeal to be admissible, FIFA's regulations stipulate that the reasoned decision must first have been notified to the appellant. While the RBFA was simply seeking legitimate explanations, FIFA itself labeled the approach as an appeal while immediately ensuring that it would be declared inadmissible. All of this occurred while, at the same time, FIFA refused to respond to the RBFA's legitimate requests. Furthermore, during the match coordination meeting, FIFA deliberately removed from its presentation the section relating to the automatic suspension of players. This point had nevertheless been addressed in all similar meetings prior to the previous four matches. The RBFA questioned FIFA, both orally and in writing, about the reasons for this change, without, however, receiving any response. It should be noted that to date, the RBFA has still received no decision or any explanation from FIFA on this matter. It therefore has no choice but to challenge the player's eligibility for the upcoming match. Regardless of the sporting outcome of this match, the RBFA is deeply concerned by the course of events and will continue to fight, in the hours, days, and months ahead, to defend the fundamental principles of ethics and sporting equity, as well as the interests of football as a whole.”
