Had a productive engagement with representatives of the Tuk Tuk Operators Network (TTON) at the Kawi Complex amphitheatre on the proposed National Tuk Tuk Energy, Peace & Resilience Campaign 2026–2027.
The eight-month campaign will reach 47 counties, supporting cleaner and more affordable mobility, access to green financing for vehicles and charging infrastructure, and new jobs in assembly, repair, battery services and clean-energy supply chains.
It will also promote road safety, safer operating environments, peaceful conflict resolution and stronger cooperation among operators, communities and public authorities; helping reduce costs, protect lives and strengthen livelihoods, especially for youth and women.
I accepted the proposal to patronize the Network and the campaign, recognising the Ministry’s role in advancing reliable energy, affordable financing, new opportunities and safer working conditions for operators.

Today at Strathmore University, I joined researchers, innovators, policymakers, industry leaders and development partners from across Africa and beyond for the CEPREC Kenya International Summit 2026, held under the theme: “Sustainable Futures Reimagined: Sustaining Africa’s Clean Energy System through Circular Innovation, Inclusion and Impact.”
Africa’s transition to clean energy presents enormous opportunities, but it also calls for us to think beyond the installation and deployment of renewable energy systems. We must ask how we will manage solar panels, electric vehicle batteries, power electronics and other equipment at the end of their useful life.
This is where circular innovation becomes critical.
Kenya generated an estimated 56,000 tonnes of electrical and electronic waste in 2025, with volumes increasing annually. This challenge also presents an opportunity to recover valuable materials, create new industries and generate employment through reuse, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling.
The Government has continued to strengthen the policy and regulatory framework for sustainable waste management, including the Sustainable Waste Management Act, Climate Change Act and Extended Producer Responsibility Regulations, moving our approach from viewing waste as a disposal problem to treating it as a resource with an owner.
As we move forward, we must all embrace our role as ambassadors of clean energy championing sustainable energy solutions, raising awareness, and encouraging responsible energy choices within our communities, institutions, and workplaces.

We are accelerating investment and stronger partnerships that will ensure universal access to clean cooking across Africa.
It is regrettable that nearly one billion people in Africa still rely on traditional fuels that threaten public health, education and the environment.
To reaffirm Kenya's commitment to clean energy, we have made clean cooking a national development priority through the Kenya National Cooking Transition Strategy, which aims to achieve universal access to clean cooking by 2028.
Kenya and the continent cannot afford to slow down on this critical intervention just five years to the deadline of achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Addressed the Virtual High-Level Event on Keeping Clean Cooking high on Africa's development agenda.
We welcome the announcement at the summit of $900 million in new commitments towards the clean cooking agenda. The launch of the Clean Cooking Security Programme is also a critical step towards accelerating the transition to clean cooking.
The event was initially planned as the Second Africa Clean Cooking Summit to be hosted in Nairobi.

I was pleased to receive the UN Resident Coordinator, Dr. Garry Conille, for a courtesy call during which we discussed strengthening collaboration between the Government of Kenya and the United Nations in advancing the country’s energy agenda.
Our discussions focused on enhancing support for energy development and service delivery through key initiatives, including the Energy Compact, the Country Platform, and increased private sector participation under the Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance.
We remain committed to fostering strategic partnerships that accelerate universal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy while driving Kenya’s socio-economic transformation.

This evening, I joined leaders, development partners, innovators, and stakeholders in the energy sector at the 4th Women in Green Hydrogen Dinner, convened under the theme “Powering the Future: Women Leading Africa’s Green Hydrogen Transformation.”
The forum highlighted the urgent need for an inclusive transition towards sustainability and low-carbon development, while reaffirming that women and the young people must remain at the centre of building resilient communities and equitable green economies across Africa.
The engagement also offered an opportunity to reflect on the progress being made through mentorship, partnerships, and skills development initiatives aimed at empowering women across the technical, financial, regulatory, and entrepreneurial dimensions of the green hydrogen value chain.
I commend Women in Green Hydrogen (WiGH) Kenya and its partners for championing inclusive participation in the green energy transition and for creating platforms that inspire collaboration, innovation, and leadership among women in this transformative sector.
I was accompanied by Dr. Eng. Isaac Kiva, Secretary for Renewable Energy representing the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum; Juliane Kabus of the German Embassy; Hanna Salian, Programme Director for Energy, Transport and Climate Change; Adnan Alam of the Global Green Growth Institute; Joy Nzuve, Board Member and Africa Global Co-Lead; and Edna Mitevu, Regional Lead for East Africa at Women in Green Hydrogen, among other distinguished participants.

Clean cooking is central to our vision of a healthier, more sustainable future for every Kenyan household. It sits at the intersection of health, climate action, and women’s empowerment—reducing harmful emissions, protecting our environment, and easing the burden on women and families.
Received progress brief from CS James Opiyo Wandayi and Eng. Alex Kamau Wachira on the strides made so far. We discussed key milestones, as well as priorities for the year ahead—including scaling access, strengthening women-led adoption platforms, and enhancing behaviour change efforts to drive sustained uptake of clean cooking solutions.
