๐ Which route wins your vote, and why?
๐ฆ๐ TURN THE SOUND UP.
Thereโs nothing quite like hearing a bull elk bugle during the rut.
That eerie whistle echoing across the mountains is a sound you NEVER forget.
One bull calls. Another answers from across the valley.
And suddenly the mountains are alive. ๐๏ธ
Have you ever heard one in person?
๐ Sometimes the clouds ARE the show. โ๏ธ๐๏ธ
I had to pull over along the Peak to Peak when I saw the fall colors spreading across the mountains toward Estes Park.

๐ฆ Ever wonder why bull elk run around with their mouths open during the rut?
This bull was busy chasing his harem, but that open-mouth look isn't always just heavy breathing.
It's called the flehmen response. Bulls use it to analyze scent cues from cowsโincluding whether they're ready to breed.
Basically, rut season is a full-time job. ๐
Have you ever seen a bull do this?
๐๏ธ THE ROAD TO ESTES PARK DOESNโT EASE YOU INโฆ IT PULLS YOU STRAIGHT INTO THE MOUNTAINS. ๐

๐ฆ๐ Only in Estes Park does a traffic jam look like THIS. ๐
Traffic stopped on Highway 34 for a very good reasonโฆ
The locals were crossing. ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ
Everyone waited while the herd took its time.
Around here, sometimes the elk decide when traffic moves again. ๐๏ธโค๏ธ
๐๐๏ธ Stop waiting for the โperfectโ time to see the aspens.
