There is no democracy without press freedom.
On International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, and beyond, we stand by all those who speak truth to power.

ALT A minimalist poster with a white background reads: โJournalists are being killed, tortured, harassed, detained, forced into exile. Impunity must end.โ The words โJournalists are beingโ and โImpunity must endโ are in bold, with the latter highlighted in red. A small European Union emblem, represented by a circle of stars inside a rectangular outline, appears at the bottom.

This post is full of hypocrisy. The EU sanctioned several journalists in the last years, without charge, without a hearing, without legal proceedings, f.e. Jacques Baud or Hรผseyin Doฤru.

Not one more.
Journalists must be able to report freely and safely. When they are attacked or killed, those responsible must be brought to justice.
Since 2015, the EU has supported nearly 13,000 journalists at risk worldwide through ProtectDefenders.EU.
On the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, we call on all States to protect journalists and ensure accountability.
