Once again - many congratulations to Ning Fang from the group for winning the poster prize here!
Congratulations to the winners of our Postgraduate Research day competitions! 🎉
Our PhD students presented their research and designed research posters, with prizes awarded for best public speaker, best poster and more! 👏

Many congratulations to Ning Fang 👏 for winning the best poster prize for industrial relevance at the @ImpMaterials post graduate research day - Ning works on understanding the deformation of zirconium alloys for nuclear fuel cladding.
Now that the group are used to socialising within our regular game of #AMongUs, it seems the gloves are off...
Many congratulations to @ThibautD10 for winning the @RoyalMicroSoc poster prize at #EBSD2021 for the "Effect of creep damage on the plastic strain localisation and the complex microstructure of an ex-service centrifugally cast HP40 reformer tube"

🚨New #preprint🚨: Accessing slip activity in high purity tin with electron backscatter diffraction and measurement of slip strength - by @gth92 Finn Giuliani and @BMatB
arxiv.org/abs/2104.02681
Congratulations Chris Bilsland - this has now been accepted for publication in Materials Characterization
🚨New Preprint: "Correlative statistical microstructural assessment of precipitates and their distribution, with simultaneous electron backscatter diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy" by Chris Bilsland, Andrew Barrow and @BMatB
arxiv.org/abs/2102.03279
Please join us in congratulating Dr @AlexFoden who has completed his PhD & had everything signed off today - Dr Foden worked on developing new #EBSD methods for advancing pattern analysis & using direct electron detectors for EBSD pattern capture.
Happy Chinese New Year - an important celebration for many of our group members and colleagues.
It's a challenging time to be celebrating, so do take time to enjoy what festivities, friendship and family you can.
🎉🐂
Hear the awesome @hexallography talk about her work 👇
Hear from Vivian Tong, a Higher Research Scientist working on Advanced Engineering Materials at NPL, who told us about the best part of her work for International Day of Women and Girls in Science. #WomenInScience
Listen now and find out about her research:
🚨New Preprint: "Correlative statistical microstructural assessment of precipitates and their distribution, with simultaneous electron backscatter diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy" by Chris Bilsland, Andrew Barrow and @BMatB

Some news 👇
As @BMatB is moving from @ImpMaterials to @UBCmaterials, the group will gradually shift (gently) in focus from work in London to work in Vancouver - but this will take a few years… so look forward to some more fun science & engineering from both sides of the pond☺️
Today is Dr Ben Britton's last day as a Reader at @imperialcollege. He will continue as a Visiting Reader for the next three years and we look forward to future collaborations!
Join us in wishing @BMatB all the best in his new role at @UBC! 🙌

Amazing moment today when @vt_vivian1 casually introduced this figure as "pretty but not very useful" - We disagree on point 2!
Today's journal club led by @SimonWyatt1 - lovely paper by Upadhyay et. al. on combined models & simulations published in @Acta_Materialia
Great 2nd Journal Club led by @vt_vivian1. We discussed micro-compression testing of Mg alloys by Aitken et al.
