Exploding Flowers

"Watermelon / Peacock is a return to the past, power pop fun with reverb drenched vocals, chiming 12 string, all the good stuff wrapped up in bite sized gems" -Bob Scott, The Bats

Thank you @slimhiney “Listen closely and you’ll hear echoes of stuff from both the Paisley Underground scene as well as some Flying Nun bands of yesteryear and someone else mentioned some cobwebs off the Soft Boys catalog” daggerzine.tumblr.com/post/6…

Thank you @TurnVolume2016 “They mix jangle-pop, mid-80’s ‘Splash Of Colour’ scene, early Creation sound, The Chills indie buzz, 90’s noise pop, all swirled into their own modern day hook-filled racket.” turnupthevolume.blog/2020/08…

“Fans of New Zealand pop luminaries such as the Chills and the Bats, Sarah Records, the Paisley Underground movement, Big Star and the Slumberland Records catalog will find much to love. (So will deep-divers who trace all those back to bands such as the Byrds and the Hollies.)”

“The L.A. band Exploding Flowers have been earning comparions to The Soft Boys, but the reality is that the group's sound owes a debt or two to just about everything good you listened to in the Eighties...”

Thank you for the kind words @WYMAblog “Whether your tastes run to Big Star, Rain Parade, The Bats, the Chills or those many '60s bands that make us swoon, you will find tracks to treasure on this album. The jangle overflows and there are more hooks than Hemingway's fishing vest”

"the twelve strings chime like the Byrds in flight as you would expect but there’s a plainly chorded organ harking back to the Chills and numerous US 60s garage bands or even the early sides by the Sea Urchins" c/o @durutti74 @ExplodingFlower agoldfishcalledregret.wordpr…
