ALT 1. Goal Projections: Betterment provides savings and withdrawal advice using projections based on return and volatility expectations for assets in client accounts. Clients can link external accounts (investing, cryptocurrency, checking, savings, HSAs, and real estate) to specific goals via Plaid. These linked assets are included in Betterment’s goal projections, allowing for accurate tracking and assessment of goal progress. More robust open banking policies will make linking external accounts easier, enabling more precise advice by offering a fuller financial picture. 2. Recommended Allocation and Risk Analysis: Betterment advises on recommended allocation and risk levels for client goals, categorizing risk from very conservative to very aggressive. It assesses the appropriateness of the risk level for different goal types (retirement, emergency fund, major purchase, etc.).
