QBS is a competitive procurement approach in which consultants are evaluated on their qualifications, experience and technical competence. The paper explains that price is negotiated at a second stage, after the preferred consultant has been identified The FIDIC QBS Paper finds that QBS projects consistently outperform national performance averages in key project metrics. In a 2022 study of United States public projects, overall project cost growth on QBS projects was 3%, against a national average of 6%. Schedule growth was 7%, against 10%. Ahead of the ICC-FIDIC Conference on International Construction Contracts and Dispute Resolution, FIDIC Academy held its workshop “FIDIC Contracts & Dispute Resolution: The Life of a Dispute from Engineer to Arbitration” on 13 October in Bogotá. Around 50 engineers, lawyers, arbitrators, contract managers, DAAB members and procurement specialists from more than 10 countries joined us.  FIDIC Chief Legal and Contracts Officer Daduna Kokhreidze, FCIArb welcomed participants. She highlighted the role of well-balanced contracts and of strong partnerships and procurement across the project team in avoiding disputes and resolving them early. José Joaquín Ortiz García, Chairman of Joyco, also addressed participants on behalf of FIDIC Academy as our local host.  Trainers Ignacio P. and Roberto Hernández-García, FCIArb, FIDIC Certified, used a single case study to follow one dispute from the Engineer’s determination through Dispute Boards and amicable settlement to arbitration.
