Enjoy the fun & festivities with wildlife in mind this #4thofJuly. Too much human activity & fireworks near the sites of beach nesting shorebirds can spook parents from their nests. This goes for nesting sea turtles too. #lovefl #bestsideoutside bit.ly/35TBMQv

Green sea turtles are the only turtle species that are primarily herbivores, munching on sea grass in shallow coastal waters. Many studies show sea grass beds grazed by turtles to be healthier than ones that aren’t! #SeaTurtleWeek #GreenTurtle #lovefl bit.ly/3xecY14 – at Englewood, FL

Turtleshell comes from the hawksbill & is made of keratin. It can be confused for cow bone or horn, plastic, or coconut. Our guide will help you tell the difference so you can identify & avoid it when souvenir shopping: bit.ly/3qvZ0ob #SeaTurtleWeek #TooRareToWear

Hawksbills can be found tropical & subtropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, & Indian Oceans. They are named for their sharp, pointed beak, which they use to get into the crevices of reefs to extract sponges-their primary food. #SeaTurtleWeek hubs.la/H0PTt_V0

Hawksbills are Critically Endangered around the world by the IUCN Red List and are listed as Endangered in the US. The primary reason for their status is the global trade of ‘tortoiseshell’ products made from their beautiful shell. #SeaTurtleWeek #TooRareToWear #Hawksbill – at Englewood, FL

From a low of a few 100 turtles, years of work protecting beaches&improving fishin gear, there are now more than 10k in the Gulf of Mexico&along the East Coast. They’re not out of the woods yet,the impact of the BP oil spill appears to be reducing their numbers again.#SeaTurtleWeek – at Englewood, FL
