Beside it is the Tigh an Truish, 'house of the trousers'. The story goes that after the 1746 Dress Act banned Highland dress, islanders swapped kilts for trousers here before heading to the mainland, and back again on the way home. 3/3

Replying to @opento
Annoyed that the stockpile tips don't include rolled oats, which make a quick warm nutritious meal if you can cook, and a perfectly OK one if just soaked (in any remaining milk before it sours, or in water with some raisins etc). We shd be supporting domestic oat production imo.

October '52 A word on the Burnet or Scots roses, so incredibly pretty, marbled and mottled, self-coloured and two-coloured, and moreover so easy to grow. #gardening

Please don't leave Halloween pumpkins to rot in your garden, or dump them in the countryside. Eating pumpkins can make hedgehogs, birds and other animals poorly. Instead, dispose of pumpkins in a covered compost bin or council food waste bin. More: littlegreenspace.org.uk/feat…

Remembering my dear colleague & friend, the poet Douglas Dunn, who died on Friday. One of the greats. Colourful, gruff & very kind. Though he was v private, his poetry ought to be everywhere in Scotland’s public places.

🦔One swipe of a garden strimmer left Dodge with a deep wound across his head.💔Our team is treating his injury with a special wound care patch. 🌿Please, always check for wildlife before strimming or mowing, and share Dodge’s story to help protect other hedgehogs!

Last day at Sands of Forvie complete! We found a giant shellfish cooking pit- around 2m across and over 1m deep with at least eight separate use phases - around 0.5m thick deposit of shells extended from this pit for around 5m from the edge of the pit! Quite the feasting site!

You’ve been seeing very large #bumblebees on the wing for the past while. Why? Okay I’ll tell you why in this quick thread if you promise to #retweet as the more people who know that these are queens the more likely that someone will help some out meaning more colonies next year. Deal? 1/15

What are you doing to stop the killing of Scotlands Woodcock, First Minister ? @JohnSwinney
Woodcock shooting season starts today in most of the UK (Scotland was 1 Sep). Continental birds have not arrived yet so any shot birds will be red-listed British breeders. GWCT suggests waiting until 1 December before targeting Woodcock. More here: wadertales.wordpress.com/201…
