"students spend a total of just two hours a day on subjects like reading and math, using A.I.-driven software." Son of a biscuit, people, how many times do you have to see this movie before you know how it ends? nytimes.com/2025/07/27/us/po…

Last week, the Committee Report for HB 4 was released. HB 4 has three authors and 74 coauthors, signaling strong support from the full House. Listen to our latest episode of Intersect Ed, “The Future of School Measurement: Examining HB 4 and Texas Education Reform,” and hear how Texas has the opportunity to move away from the #STAAR Test, the value of local accountability systems, and what a more meaningful accountability system could look like for Texas. Listen here: raiseyourhandtexas.org/podca… Our Intersect Ed host, Morgan Smith, is joined by Harry Feder, Executive Director of @FairTestOffice - The National Center for Fair and Open Testing; Brad Owen, Superintendent at @burkburnettisd; and Max Rombado, Legislative Director at Raise Your Hand Texas. #MeasureWhatMattersTX #HB4 #TxEd #TxLege

Too much emphasis is placed on the STAAR test results, and our current A-F accountability system fails to provide parents with a holistic look at how schools and teachers support the education of Texas students and the future of Texas as a world-class economy. It’s time for Texas to lead on assessment and accountability and rethink the role of STAAR results, from graduation requirements to being the only measurement tool to assess our elementary and middle schools. Our students are more than one test on one day. It’s time to #MeasureWhatMattersTX. Replying to @benwilbrink
If you select using standardized tests, even as a factor, you advantage families from higher income groups. College Board data is less transparent, but here is the 2018 ACT data, which I extracted from their EIS Software.

CNN, NYT etc. were not up to the threat, or the big picture. What are the good alternatives?
CNN has a story titled “where the Harris campaign went wrong.” Nope, I won’t read it. Harris ran a great campaign. The story should be titled “where the American people went wrong.”
