PERFECT DAYS (2023) is about a man finding happiness in the smallest things, yet somehow that final shot of Hirayama driving to Nina Simone’s Feeling Good captures the beauty and sadness of being alive better than most films ever could.
Can someone recommend a movie that will absolutely destroy you in the most beautiful way?
Something deeply human that makes you feel connected to the characters, leaves you staring at the credits in silence, and stays in your head for days. Not necessarily sad, just something that makes you feel EVERYTHING.
A film about life, love, loss, loneliness, or the beautiful mess of being human. Something that leaves a little hole in your heart when it’s over.

TRAIN DREAMS (2025) is a quietly devastating film about love, loss and a lifetime slipping away. The breathtaking cinematography makes the forests and mountains feel like memories you wish you could hold onto forever.

John Carpenter's The Fog - an atmospheric chiller that's more about tension than scares. A well-cast ensemble gives credibility to this old-fashioned ghost story. It has fine cinematography by Dean Cundey & a quietly haunting score from Carpenter. A subtle slice of genre cinema.

Al Pacino only owning one Oscar still feels so incredibly wrong. Don’t bore me with details - don’t drown me in a year-by-year analysis as to why Pacino didn’t win more. Yada yada yada. This man should have multiple statutes and it hurts @TheAcademy’s own credibility that he doesn’t have more. Pacino’s humility always gets me. For all his fame & all his talent, Pacino still feels modest. I love this man & his entire body of work.

Leonardo DiCaprio is incredible in The Departed (2006). Billy Costigan spends almost the entire film on the edge of a breakdown, and you can feel the pressure building every time he's forced to pretend to be someone else.

David O. Russell might never direct a film again after Madden. Do I want that to happen? Of course not. I want Madden to be a huge success. But if this film turns out as bad as it looks (and based on this trailer…it looks bad), who would ever bankroll O. Russell again? He just made the worst film of his career with Amsterdam & if he follows it up with another flop, why would anyone take another chance on him? Especially when you consider how difficult he is to work with as a director. There’s a lot on the line for O. Russell right now.

Genius! In Pulp Fiction, Mia Wallace describes a failed TV pilot she starred in called Fox Force Five, which eerily foreshadows the characters and team structure of Quentin Tarantino's later movie Kill Bill.

almost all of my students were talking about wildwood today - only a handful had already seen it, but the rest were saying they want to after hearing more about it - and i’m hoping against hope it’s gonna be a slow burn word-of-mouth success story
